Elite Dangerous: Horizons and Future Updates

Updates as per today's Dev Update by Michael. If you've not read it you can find it here

Thanks, altered:

  • The SRV can run out of fuel but can also be re-fuelled via an as yet unknown re-fuelling process - this will not involve automatic re-fuelling via limpits.

Actually... I believe he said you'll be able to refuel the SRV at your ship. It was a quick (and kind of mumbled, I think) comment, somewhere else in that video. I think. Or am I going crazy? Gah, I don't want to have to watch that whole damn livestream video again - It wasn't nearly as interesting as the previous one, IMO :(

Small update via Michael's comment on Looting and Crafting:

Some elements of Looting & Crafting (L&C) will be available in the initial 2.0 release.
The actual L&C System will be available during a later release - believed to be Q1 (Jan-Mar) 2016.

If you've missed it, David Braben released another Sneaky Peek of a ground assault on a base yesterday evening. You can read the thread here. Video linked below.

Thread updated:

On the 29th October David Braben made a post showing some video footage of a ground assault using SRV buggies on a large moon base.

Link to the PP thread started by Sandro as it has useful information on regarding possible changes to this part of the game.

Power Play

  • Aside from a few changes to Powerplay mentioned in the above section, there has also been a post and long running thread from Sandro Sammarco about possible changes to Powerplay in 2016. I won't post all the information here, but you can read the thread by clicking [here].

Thanks for the information, guys (did not know HMC and Metal-rich planets were included - glad to know they are :) ), but I think you misunderstood my question - I was asking about what they considered the cut-off for how much atmospheric pressure a planet could have, yet still be visitable in Horizons. They have said 'airless', yes, but I'm pretty sure they've also used the words 'trace' and 'virtually airless' (and/or similar words) to describe the worlds that we'll be able to land on. Since 'virtually airless' and 'trace' are not the same as COMPLETELY airless, where will the cutoff be? 0.00 atmo? 0.01? Even a small discrepancy like this has a huge effect on the number of worlds that we'll be able to visit. For instance, I'm already compiling a list of planets I'd like to land on when Horizons hits, but some of them have the aforementioned 0.00 and 0.01 atmospheric pressures. Will I be able to land on them or not? I, for one, really hope I can, as a number of them have been terraforming candidates ;)

Welp, I just submitted my question for tomorrow's livestream (I think) - Here's hoping it gets answered!

Don't forget about the David Braben Horizons live Q&A stream (maybe with new footage, maybe without!) at 7pm GMT. You can find the link here.

Also, depending on how much new information is prised from his well manicured hands, I will have something pretty and shiny for people to have a look at.

I was wondering why there isn't an obivous thing on the forum to list/promote/advertise these? Am I missing something?

Yes, I think maybe they should have a note when you log in alerting you to the fact there's one coming up. There's plenty of places to read stuff on this forum and I guess people can miss the thread if they aren't used to looking for particular news in that place. Although IIRC it was in the newsletter.

Silly me looking in the official news/announcement related forums?

Braben's just said it in today's livestream - 1.5 Beta is the "week commencing the 9th" - Next week!! :D

Aaaand, 2.0... "24th November" WOOOOHOOO!

I'm so excited, I could wet myself :p

You're not an Elite unless you've utilized your suit's waste water reclamation systems at least once. ;)

As one who spends long stints exploring far away from civilized space, I assure you I've utilized it many times :D

Er... not sure if I should have admitted that so gleefully, but how can one not get excited over the Elite Dangerous universe's version of this:

I think the cut-off is whether the planet has an atmosphere dense enough for a weather system --which would need simulating = more coding.

Updated with Horizons information as per tonights Q&A with David Braben. I wont list them all, so just look at the highlighted text in the original post. The main one however, in case you've missed it!

The Beta release dates will be as follows [Link]:

  • 1.5 Update - WEEK COMMENCING 9th November.
  • Horizons 2.0 - 24th November

I'll do the general updates (of which there were plenty) later.
