Elite Dangerous: Horizons - Inside the SRV livestream on our official YouTube Channel 7PM BST 21st Oct

Looking really promising! Love the bug-... SRV design. I really like the idea of a fleet of them driving around slowly at night time with just a small amount of the surface illuminated by the headlights (like piste-bashers in a ski resort maybe?!

There was quite a bass-y sound from the tyres when they turned the sound up which sounded really cool too (as did the thrusters). And some of the vistas are going to be great. Amazing to think that all these worlds are going to be unique. When they show all the other stuff to do on the planets, I can imagine some people could easily spend days and days just doing "stuff" on one planet alone without ever launching back into space.

Might try and recreate some of the scenes from "Moon" when the beta is out :)

Very awesome guys! Hope you're down the pub now after that ;)

I think what is there is quite impressive other than the low res textures or lack of polygons and blandness in the scenery.
Sure it is a lifeless rocky world but if there isn't a lot more variety then once you have landed on one then you will have landed on them all but for handling differences or different types of worlds such as Icy.

As an explorer I am still waiting for something to actually explore and some actual game mechanics around exploring and hoped landings would finally give me a reason to explore new worlds just for the sake of exploration but I think this will be like the space based game with a solid base game but essentially mini games stitched on top which may quickly become repetitive.

The actual SRV's look great and the handling should be fun for a while but hopefully there will be something for explorers that is part of the natural worlds rather than just a surface equivalent of space based signal sources and a button press to "discover".

I fear they will concentrate mainly on combat as that is what they are talking up which will be fun but again get old pretty quickly unless there is layered, nuanced gameplay with good variation and perhaps a little more tactical based.

Just watched the stream. Looks stunning. Converted T9 loaded with monster truck or Rally car, landing for the Galactic Grand Prix. I can use my X52 as well. Well impressed. Thanks to all involved at FD.

That was awesome FD devs and thanks Mike for your awesome driving model, you guys rock!
Awaiting eagerly the next stream...

So a couple questions after watching the livestream...

What's the premise behind being able to dismiss and call your ship instantaneously? It better be good because I'm not Apollo nor do I ride a magical chariot across the sky.

What's the purpose of fuel if I can instantly summon a refeuling station to land right beside me?

Did anyone else notice something missing?

The between the leg screen is gone!

Clearly, it is meant for some activity unique to the ship

Yes I noticed it instantly, when he looked down for the first time, there was something missed... :)
Maybe too much energy consumption on a little SRV, if you turn on that screen one day... :D

I think they have always said that SRV thrusters will in big part compensate different Gs. Gameplay over realism - they still have different planets with different gravities, but they don't want to jump into too extremes (my impression from all the devs talks).

That is all well and good, but I want an option to turn it off... If I end up hovering in the orbit round the planet, or crushed by hypergravity, thats my fault then...

I want to know what that little red tank is for. Emergency halon fire suppression? Oxygen? Martinis?

QUESTION:
What's the maximum gravity of a planet we can land on?

I wonder what the human body could get used to...

EDIT:

"According to NASA’s Ames Research Center’s expert on humans in space, a person has survived 2x Earth’s gravity for 24 straight hours without ill effects. They go on to claim that it is theoretically possible for a human to adapt to a gravity environment that is between 2x and 3x that of the Earth. However, they say that at 4 times Earth’s gravity (4G) or above, human physiology cannot maintain sufficient blood-flow to the brain."

Just watched the replay of the live stream for the SRV, it was early morning in Australia.
Just a a few ideas.
1) Is it possible to have height above sea level so we can get a sense on how high some of the mountains and how low some of the valleys are in meters? For e.g. we know on Earth the sea is 0m and as you travel up mountains it can be 1000s of meters above sea level.
2) In the ships we have a system map, can we have a planet map and select a way-point and drive to the location even maybe add how many KMs to go?

It was a point of reference. If you look at mars, mars has no seas. But know how high the mountains are, because we have scanned the surface.

Really Fantastic thank you :)
I'm not sure if I missed them mentioning in the
but incase anyone else was wondering what type of planet they were SRV'ing on it was KALB B 4 A in the KALB system
