Elite Dangerous in the Media thread

@Pecisk

At least with E: D we know the thing's gonna undergo full development eventually. But the problems caused by paying for unfinished software are very real, i deal with them every day and generally it IS something folks should be extremely skeptical about. I'm fairly confident however that E: D will be an exception to the general rule here...

Yes I agree 100% here, there are and will be games, especially perhaps on Steam's Early Access which will never come out of early alpha and will never get finished. Many normal internal game projects die for a variety of reasons, but now we're seeing so many in public view asking for money...

I am not concerned with Elite as you say, plus I was impressed with David Braben's attitude during the whole Kickstarter and by the fact they didn't keep adding pledge levels to try and gain extra funding, beyond extra ships and the Mac port.

I think it's useful for us to know this kind of vitriolic negativety is out there.

I'm not sure how is useful... But we'll think of something :D

I understand where it is coming from, but in this case man with a rant haven't done his research properly and practically barking at wrong tree for no good reason. He has agenda (good or bad - not for me to judge), and ED just happened in cross chairs.

Ranting without knowing facts is worse than lying :)

Useful is this maybe for FD to show that going around telling how much your beta costs isn't so good thing. Harsh, but some people won't get it, and they won't care to get full story since KS.

I turned it off after a couple of minutes too. My feeling was it wasn't their type of game and they really knew nothing about it. I am guessing they saw the post it note size articles on quite a few gaming sites that announced the beta for ED and felt they had to jump on the bandwagon because they had missed it previously.

On the subject that lots of mags/sites covered the beta news I think that's very positive for the game and indicates its getting traction.

Return of the Space Sim - Star Citizen and Elite: Dangerous

The biggest piece of news here is that Gamespot actually mentioned Elite at all considering that there have not been one single article about it since the KS ended.

Sure it was still sorted under Star Citizen and brought up as the second game in the video, but still...that's a 100% more coverage than what they have done previously. :p

Quite funny I was just reading that and was going to link to it. I liked the start of it where they described the 3 main players (Valkyrie, ED, SC) and how they differ. Thought the descriptions were pretty accurate and really painted the differences quite well.

Really good article, I wonder how long ago it was that the journo got his mitts on ED because he mentions the next Alpha phase will likely be out in a couple of weeks.

In the near future—weeks away at most—Elite: Dangerous will enter its next alpha phase, which finally brings the trade and exploration aspects into the game. As a result, you'll finally be able to explore the full Elite: Dangerous map, which is utterly gigantic in true Elite form. Most of it is uncharted and ripe for player discovery.

Hopefully it was a couple of weeks ago, imagine all the testing that we could get done over a Bank Holiday weekend, eh Dave? F5, F5, F5!!! :D

Well, we'll know in 15 minutes if they plan to send out the news to investors about a possible release today. Tick tack tick tack.... :D
