Elite Dangerous in the Media thread

Enjoyable reading, but "on general release by the end of the year"?

I also like his take on software piracy. There is no squashing the man's optimism.

I personally think it was "there will be gamma, for which we don't know how long it will take, but game officially will be released by the end of the year". Journalist just took those words and made rather confusing sentence.

Yeah, I kinda like his attitude towards piracy. I was surprised by it, I thought he openly hates it.

Apart from Elite: Dangerous, I am not looking forward to any of those.

As long as the Witcher series does not devolve (to the likes of Dragon age sequels), I"ll be looking forward to their next release.

If anything, it looks like the next in line will contest the Elder scrolls for primacy.

Yeah, I liked that. I do wonder if there will be some form of link to an account that requires some from of code from the installation to do multiplayer. I mean, have single player out there pirated left right and centre. BUT if they want to go multiplayer then they need that unique code, or an account with a "proof of purchase" or something.

I can see if shared via mates they WILL want to play multiplayer, and if the only way to do it was via a legit copy then good news. Of course, no security system is foolproof...

Hi Pecisk,

I'm going to merge your thread with the media thread, just to help keep thing together a bit. :)

Interesting article as well.

Wouldn't surprise me if that is the general release date. 6-9 months for a Gamma phase, resources redistributed (as Gamma should be non intensive) to expansion 1. General release for the 2014 Xmas market using the carrot of Expansion 1 for spring 2015.

And also using anniversary as major marketing point for release. I was against this theory at first, but I kinda start to admit that it makes sense.

You'll have to have an account for multiplayer, as your data will be stored on Frontier's servers. There won't be a way to play multiplayer, or even single-player online unless you've bought an account, or are sharing one with a legitimate purchaser. So pirates can only play single player offline, and many will probably then want to convert to the full experience.

Between that and the ability to primarily sell digitally online (with no reselling of used copies, which is something David Braben has criticised retailers for in the past) the stars have aligned for Frontier to maximise returns.

Good lad, nice to see real enthusiasm on the web. :D

Does look that way, doesn't it? :) Do we know if he frequents the forums at all?

As he admits to not having backed the game yet, if he is on the forums, he's not in any backer only sections (PBF, DDF, Alpha etc), but he's very welcome anyway.
