Just posted this up yesterday.

Also, I don't think Elite: Dangerous is the best game of 2014 but it's definitely in my top 5. I'd say number 2 right behind This War Of Mine.

I hope that's a joke. That little casual game is your GOTY? I've completed it in 30 hours having done everything, no reason to go back. It's a depressing little browserish game with fake angelic forced-morality with stupid characters (the fat useless teacher and the psycho cook). Elite is about 400 billion times better (see what I did there). It's not even comparable.

Not very good for the reputation ... hope that Frontier will solve these problems definitively

Hello,

On January 1st 2015 at 11pm GMT we had an issue with one of our databases . One of our engineers spotted this immediately and removed the database from circulation. This took around 2 hours to complete, test and make live to commanders. In this time, a relatively small number of commanders were affected by failed transactions and small losses in credits. These commanders should have received their refunds, along with a 20% bonus as in previous instances.

If you are still having problems, please create a support ticket for our customer support team via https://support.elitedangerous.com.

Finally, we do have 24/7 server engineer coverage over the holiday period to catch problems such as these. However, to further communicate these issues to commanders, we are currently working on creating a server status page where we can communicate any immediate issues or known problems. This should be live within the week.

Apologies again for the disruption in service.

Fly safe commanders!

Heise.de, one of germany's biggest IT magazines, released a lengthy podcast/vidcast, also covering Elite Dangerous:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qTOuBYzOzjs (Starts at 20:30)

For those of you who don't speak german, the gist of it is that they find the game very difficult, but also very rewarding. There were a few inaccuracies like they didn't know that there's a docking computer in Elite Dangerous (they say it only existed in the older games), but overall it's a very positive look on the game. They also specifically mention that ED is currently the best game you can play on the Oculus Rift.

When is the ability to get out and land on planets coming? this year? before Start Citizen?

I dont think we ll see First Person gameplay or landing on planets this year. The first things we ll probably see are only the starts of the development of those expansions, possibly landing in airless rocks and moons or getting to move in FP around our ships initially, but there is no date at all yet for even that. I reckon that by the end of 2015 if we are lucky we may be able to see some tiny aspects of that start. But no one out here really knows.

Will this be before or after Star Citizen launches? Well, given that Star Citizen plans to launch towards the mid or end of 2016 but that any delay will probably push it to 2017 my guess is that there is a significant chance we may start to see some aspect of landing on planets of FP before that.

As fun as those sound, personally I am much more interested in FDEV finishing first some of the key mechanics still misisng from the base game.

If Frontier considering the game for ten years, the planetary landings will not come before 2-3 years, I think. There is much to do before. The "wings", stabilize the network, add content (missions), spaceships, goods, skins, develop for the founding members of the Elite, develop the MAC version ...

They said within 12 months. They already have a unreleased FPS game made using the same gfx engine, so a lot of work is done already.

ED main programmer Howard said work will be done in parallel. So I don't think it will be 2 - 3 years. Walking definitely will come soon enough, possibly even at the end of 2015. Mac version is already in works, and done by engine team.

Source please.

Won't give you direct link (too lazy to look it up), but it was covered during reddit David Braben's AMA in 2012 December, and confirmed many times after Kickstarter.

Granted, everything must be taken with pinch of salt, things have changed (as we have witnessed in last several months). Unless they post some schedule it is all guesstimate. But wait is not clearly not that long as many think.

Indeed! Thanks.

Yes Pecisk is very optimistic. The post (below) of Viajero is enough realistic, I find. I can not see the full versions of "walking around the ship" and especially the "planetary Landings" before 2 years. We have now the experience of the catalog of the DDF, and the reality... We must be realistic ...
