Elite Dangerous Launcher : Download speed choice

Not sure how difficult this is, but for those of us on crappy internet connections, being able to limit the download speed (like certain torrent clients or Blizzard's Battle.net) can make the wait pass easier.

It would also avoid arguments from CMDRs' children complaining that YouTube is stuttering.

I thank you.

If you get a steam account, then you can get a steam keys for for Elite Dangerous for free. Atleast it used to work like this. So this would add your game to steam, but you still need your Frontier account to play the game, so you cannot give a copy othe game to someone else...

Why go through all of this hassle?
Steam launcher, have what you desire, a bandwidth limiter.

Even with the Steam wrapper there are (or have been) times where Steam does not download new material. This probably has greatest relevance when participating in a Beta though.

Further more, I do not blame anyone for not wanting to use third-party launchers/downloaders - I personally use Steam and find it good enough for me but not everyone will feel the same.

FTR if you have a decent domestic internet router/hub then you should be able to do bandwidth limiting via that.

This problem is a serious issue for me. Well..no lives depend on it, but still.

Whenever I download an update or a new version of Elite, the launcher takes ages to download it showing download rates between 0.2Mbps and 40Mbps. The Client.log shows many time-outs during this process.
What is crucial though is that while the launcher is downloading (or syncing) the new software, all other clients on my network suffer from internet connection problems. This probably means that my router is being stressed to a point that it fails to properly service any other client than the one the launcher is running on.

This happens only and exclusively when downloading Elite using the Frontier Launcher. So there must be something in the way the launcher communicates with the Frontier servers. I'd love to know what the root cause is, so I can perhaps change a setting or convince my internet provider to do something.

Update:
My router's resources were the limiting factor when the launcher was set to Multithreaded Downloads to ON. Turning them off limits the bandwidth the launcher uses and fixes the problem, but at the cost of download speed and time.

I would appreciate a way of having more control over the amount of bandwidth or the number of threads the launcher requires.
