Well, I would still love to see a redemption arc for Elite. And see the core gameplay move beyond placeholder/good enough state and fulfill its maximum potential.
But at this rate I have more believe that No Mans Sky will receive a similar flight model as in Elite somewhere in the near future.

I guess its time to put Elite in the "check again in 12 months" cabinet, and hope for the best.

Haha, you sure?
Direct 3d 11 is about 6 years old
Quite sure.

And D3D11 is 13 years old - it released with Windows 7 in 2009.

Unfortunately my prediction that the badly botched Odyssey release had irreperably damaged the future of the game seems to be right. I suspect the next announcement will be "Unfortunately we are ceasing all development of the game". It's just been a steady drip of bad news in the form of "We aren't doing this/that/the other" (e.g., console development ceased, fixing the rendering of planets not to be addressed etc.)

I wish it weren't true, E : D is my "first love" in video games - so much so I ended up as a writer and editor for Sagittarius Eye magazine, and it's a terrible shame to see it's likely development is ending.

If Frontier don't have anyone at Lavecon, it'll probably pretty much confirm the suspicion that E : D 's development has ended.

Be careful. Almost all conspiracy theories are based on circumstantial evidence that "makes an amazing amount of sense". And yet most of them go horribly wrong. Circumstantial evidence is not the same as proof.
What conspiracy theory do you refer to?
They canceled develpments on console, canceled fixes to planetary feature tiling, no roadmaps, no development news, livestreams now canceled too. Story hasn't progressed substancially in many years, no new ships in 3 years. They also butchered the issue tracker, why would you not fix bugs on a piece of software you've not abandoned?

There's no conspiracy there, fellow commander. FDev has given all the above signs pointing they abandoned ED as a live service.

No apologies needed!

The post was worded carefully and precisely. We don't know when the streams will continue. When we do, we'll post to let everyone know.
Oh, it's not about the lack of streams (if you have nothing to say about game development those are boring as f anyway).
It's the carefully and precisely worded lack of information about what's going on.

I mean, If you would say nothing, the amount of information we would have would have been almost exactly the same.
No stream, no idea why, no idea when they're going back, no idea what's going on with Elite.
Only thing we've learned was that you know there are no streams.

I guess what "counter" I can offer to listings of recent bad news and communication failures, would be that it was IMO essentially always this bad -- others may previously have had lower standards.

Good question, because everyone is making up their own at the moment. All the stuff you listed above is "circumstantial evidence" which is the bread and butter of virtually every conspiracy theory. None of this is conclusive proof of anything. Sorry mate, I really don't know how to explain it any better when you refuse to see the difference with real evidence. That's not to say the opposite is true, I'm just saying we can't know for sure at the moment. It's even possible that the devs themselves don't know at this point. But that is no more or less speculation than your theory. Fortunately, criminologists usually work much more carefully. If they all jumped to such conclusions, there would be many more innocent people behind bars today.
Not sure how to respond without going too much off-topic. The writing is on the wall. You also can't proof your perception of the Universe isn't a comprehensive simulation of purely your brain and nothing exists outside of it. Is this conjecture also a "conspiracy theory" for you? We make assumptions based on information we have, not always nor for everything we need a proof. That's how we learn. Some assumptions turn out to be wrong, others don't, and that's fine.

For me, all those "circumstantial evidence" I mentioned clearly indicate FDev isn't interested in ED's future at all. I hope not, but I strongly feel that's sadly the case.

You also don't really have to make assumptions, that is typically more useful when your assumptions are required for some kind of action of decision. But we're talking about whether some computer game might get more additions or not. "Wait and see" is a perfectly fine option with zero assumptions needed either way. :) Seriously though, in these kind of situations people make assumptions pretty much because they struggle dealing with uncertainty. Understandable, but a pretty meh reason all the same.

You don't really have no make, or play or participate in anything, but we are only human :)

hmm... who from the Elite CM teams is moving to Warhammer? or who's leaving Frontier?
They may just be looking to add to the team, especially with the arrival of the F1 game which is in-house. Paul seems quite focused on Warhammer, so he's probably the most likely candidate to be focused there. Nobody knows.

It would be a good thing if a longtime member of the Elite community (who isn't completely off their rocker) applied for it. @Alec Turner - get yer CV in!!!!

I'm guessing they're replacing Sally?
Doubt it. She's on sick leave, but up until her last day before going out, she was 100% dedicated to the game.

Possibly, although with the Elite budgetary cuts it doesnt make much sense to keep 4-5 CM assigned to Elite, although Paul seems quite busy with Warhammer and Arm even more doing Warhammer streams and voice overs for trailers.

Edit: what i mean is one Elite CM is enough to post Cancel notices on the forums - they dont really need a team for that 😂

Oh sure, and if it is an enjoyable past-time rock on. :) Some folks do seem to get themselves down with their own assumptions, and that seems a bit of a shame.

FWIW: if I had to guess I'd say it is unlikely a company as succesful as FD would be this incompetent when it comes to community management about a game they genuinely want to continue to invest in. A more plausible explanation would be they simply are turning off the lights but want to keep some minor cosmetics income going for a bit. Its either that somewhat disappointing but understandable turn of events or they really are mind-boggingly incompetent when it comes to consumer relations.

Then again, I remember David Braben being visible confused about what a steam could possibly be when asked if ED would come to Steam. Who knows, maybe they are this clueless about how gaming communities work in the 21th century.
