Elite Dangerous Machinima Video

Great job. I really enjoyed watching this . You've got the Elite Dangerous Spirit at its peak ; This is E.D . Thanks again and I lounge for what's next .

Cool man. Congrats! [up]

Awesome short film. Really nice self contained story. How did you create the effects for the ship being swallowed up and integrate them so well with the game footage?

What I did was track the camera movement in After Effects, then apply that tracking to an After Effects Camera.

I then found a nice crack image online, applied that as a 3D layer in after effects, so the layer then matched the movement of the tracked camera.

I then used a series of masks to animated the individual crack tendrils so it looks like they appeared from underneath the ship and spread out.

To make the dust cloud, I used a plugin called Trapcode Particular in After Effects to create an expanding dust cloud from a specific area. I then masked the dust cloud so it appeared from underneath the ship, then slowly pulled the mask back into the center to give the illusion that the dust cloud envelopes the ship.

It sounds more complicated than it actually is.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to be VERY disappointed if this video of yours isn't in the next newsletter. It really shows off the potential we all have now. [up]

Awesome. Thanks for explaining it step by step. I'm still a total noob with After Effects but hoping to learn how to eventually do cool stuff like this :)

Cool, thanks for the link. I remember watching a video copilot tutorial on how to do a lightsaber :)

Looks like Frontier dosent like me.. No mention in the newsletter.. lol
Their loss. How do they choose what stuff to showcase in the newsletter? Internally decided or do they hold a vote with the community?
