"Revenue from Fortnite Battle Royale during the first half of 2018 had been estimated in the hundreds of millions of dollars per month"

Definitively a commercial choice, yes. Fortnite model (fps pew pew online) is the graal for games companies.
Which rather begs the question, why are Frontier messing about in the niche space game market, when they could be attempting to get a foothold in the vast and vastly competitive FPS market?

I "created" this Avatar and this Signature exactly for this scope so I'm more than happy to see people using it and also changing their username adding [VR] in front of it :)(y)
The more we are the louder is our voice to reach FDEV.

It's for people like me that want to demonstrate to FDEV that we understand the challenge of a full VR integration on the FPS part of the game and we are open to a compromise just to avoid the complete drop of VR at Odyssey launch.
Atmospheric Planets in the ships and in the SRV, without legs, at Odyssey launch is something that would make many people happy.

Done it

According to Frontier it's because they can't do a good enough job (presumably within the constraints), according to some forum members, who seem to unaccountably have access to Frontier's most intimate decisions and financial details, it's financial.

If company decisions didn't have financial / commercial considerations, then that company wouldn't be trading for very long.

That's fairly obvious, but Frontier, unless I'm mistaken, have never claimed a lack of VR in Odyssey at launch is for financial reasons. That'a a speculation that apparently has become fact.

Shouldn't we be marching through London demanding equality for minorities? What FD are doing is akin to taking away the wheelchair ramps into buildings and making them inaccessible. Outrageous!

I completely agree with all of that and I'm NOT sure I want VR FPS, but seated/cockpit VR is already in the game and I'd really like that to continue.

Non-existance is confirmed, I'd like them to change their mind and support cockpit VR at a minimum as long as it doesn't impact Odyssey release.

edit: I'm NOT sure about VR FPS in Elite
Non existence is confirmed? What for ever? Where was that announced?

Hmmm! Last time I heard owning VR was not considered a disability! And not covered under the Disability Discrimination Act!

But surely that justifies a stand alone FPS game in it's own right. Are FD really going to build a complete Fortnite as a bolt on? If they do I can't see for a second fortnite players (what are they 13 years of age) would do any of the other type of stuff in elite. FPS games are instant gratification type of play. Elite you are spending days mining for something that's happening weeks/months down the line. Can anyone imagine a fortnite player exploring, scanning planets, for months at a time? Very very different games styles.

That also begs the question if Odyssey FPS does take off and all the fortnite kids come over they will demand more FPS and the standard elite game play will take a back seat and slowly wither and die which is what the VR players think will happen to Horizons. Perhaps the 2D traditional elite players should be concerned about this and join the VR players in asking that horizons should be maintained and developed with new content.
You can just imagine the Griefer's and the Gankers (I recently found out what they were... I never complained... I saw it as part of that freedom to be who you wanted to be bit) running around... with space legs! You can hear the complaints already, you can see the private groups being set up... invitation only and you can hear the footsteps of the lonely spaceleg in Solo.

Sure but you have to have a balance, please your customers and watch the pennies. They are not intrinsically linked?

Lets not get into a conversation about the value of commercials and customers. Your views are those of a customer whos emotionally invested in something and therefore not objective.
