ANNOUNCEMENT Elite Dangerous | Odyssey: Roadmap

I am astonished about how people here defend this.
You don't value your money or your life time? Why are you arguing on behalf of a million dollar company? It's them who have to take the responsibillity and actually explain why their work is nothing but crap.

To all those defending companys releasing broken products while at the same time ignoring the customers: you are the problem. Stop acting like everything is good and everything is fine while it's obvious to every sane person that we were lied to and exploited.

The motivation was pure greed and you people empower them in stealing from us. Maybe they had money problems and were really really desperate for the sake of the game or whatever one can tell us. But in the end it doesn't change that we were exploited.

I don't sympethize with the mugger robbing me on the street and I will not do it with a company making millions in revenue by scamming people.

Their duty as a company is to create a functioning product. They sold us Odyssey as a finished product, not as a beta, so it's totally in line from everyone to be angry about what we got.
I read through all of the 72 pages (yep) and THIS post right here is the one that I would point out as the crucial post of the whole thread.
Well said Lanzelund!

If that resonates so much with you I really don't get why you're even on this forum or playing Elite. Or read through 72 pages.
That kind of anger calls for refund/lawyers and cut ties with everything related to the product.

Wow thank you! I'm just venting without even expecting anyone to read and answer. I'll take more care of my language from now on.

Again, i think that this is by design.

They probably have planned to slowly pull out of the game that makes the less money in the portfolio. They maxed profits (release a paid alpha, while finishing development in the following 6 months so they can double down whit console release).

And they did that fully knowing that the ED audience is most likely different from the target audience of any other game in the portfolio (see the audience of "babby first dinosaur park").

They have other games that already generate more money (correct me if im wrong), and 2 to 3 new "big" titles planned for the next 2 years.

We have probably overstimated our worth (to them) as customers.

This was a controlled risk, by design.

I firmly believe so too, the higher ups (including David Braben of course) didn't just talk for 10 minutes and said "ok let's just release Odyssey and that's it"; this, Odyssey and everything that is happening and will happen, is the result of long meetings and conversations, it is a very calculated risk up to console release and beyond.
And their stock price is going back up too so far:

They talk about better communications but they don't even try to stop the PR talk bull for 2 goddamn minutes and be sincere to us, absolutely no respect. The community has been extremely patient and the love they've showed for the game is insane, and how much money people drop on cosmetics too ? Frontier don't deserve any of it, they don't deserve us.

Because I am disappointed in how Odyssey turned out and I was curious about their plans for the future.
And I wanted to see what others have to say about it.
Is that a good enough reason to read these posts?

I've been saying things to this effect for years but it feels like slamming your head against a brick wall. Mindless fanboys, positive review bombing, making excuses for malpractice, zero self awareness as a consumer/customer and how enabling this behavior in no way benefits you but strongly benefits your malefactors.

This is why you now fully expect a new game to be in an absolute state when it releases. For some people this equates to it being acceptable, if I had a pound for every: 'All games are like this now!' 'Stop whining, just be thankful there's a game at all' and one of my favourites 'it's the customers fault for wanting the game so badly pressuring the devs'

It's like half the gaming community these days is suffering from some sort of Stockholm syndrome.

My take on this is don't buy until after the console release, as it stands all the patches are to bring the EDO side to a state where it's at least almost to the level they wanted it at just without the performance. After the console release the performance side should be up to standard so the game will be playable for many more people.

Absolutely. Makes total sense.
Why resonating with an opinion then that leaves absolutely no room for anything else but cutting ties?

The thing is, that even with the crappy release I still enjoy the game. There are a load of issues, and I don't think they will be fixed before Christmas, and I'm also angry about being lied to time and time again. Still, I enjoy what I can do. If I was offered a refund, I don't think I would take it.

That feeling is then ruined again and again by Frontier lying through their teeth, like promissing a road map turning about to be a joke, with new empty lies like "many improvements", or better communication in a post that was the exact opposite.

So @Fdev: Get your head down, stop lying, tell the truth and fix this mess. Then I'll shut up and gaze at the pretty sunsets for the next couple of months. I might even start pushing the game to friends again.

I wouldn't call that a roadmap. Kinda shot your own foot there adding those mentions of bugfixes on there.
Would be better off PR-wise if you made separate announcements regarding optimalisation and bugfixin' and an upcoming features roadmap separately.
Esp. considering what people usually expect when they hear "roadmap".

I wasn't expecting this huge DLC to run smooth or anything, but at the very least being able to get a mission would be nice.
Searched the forums for some explanation on that issue, and couldn't find anything except a mention of a workaround by completing a mission in Horizons - unfortunately for me, it only worked for a single mission in Odyssey, then back to 0, no list refresh or w/e is going on there.
With bugs like this, making the game unplayable (I mean, can't do missions is quite "unplayable" isn't it?) it feels like a Beta, honestly.
I am going to check it out with the next update and I'm sure as hell not going to spend any money on this game anytime soon if ever again.

This roadmap is ridiculous . :(
Dont tell me that im just with VR (without support)and huge stutters even in ship close to surface.
I opt for refund ,as its a joke that whats in the roadmap and nothing about VR support and , stability for those unplayable stutters.
Shame that how a precious simulation starts to sink ...(btw today's habit)

Some free to play do better than this roadmap.
You should do better in the future.
This DLC was released far too early.
A roadmap is not meant to offer only fixes, but also substantial content.
It hurts for my game after 4000h +.
You broke everything, it's complicated to list all the problems encountered since May 19, so there are so many.
You have so much work to do that more licenses may be released before the fixes arrived.

Ps: I made the effort to write to you in English when you are not able to translate the description of the new engineers into my native language while offering you this option, maybe not perfectly but at least, i made the effort.
I'm ashamed of you, all messed up for a potential question of money.

This joke of a roadmap, almost beats the "roadmap of the roadmap" of that other game.

"Many improvements and fixes" oooh goody!

They could have made much easier:

Week one: will be fixing this and that.
Week two: will be fixing that other thing.
Week three: will be updating and tweaking a this, that, and that other thing.
BTW, we will also be fixing dozens and dozens of bugs each week and will provide a list with each patch.
If there's more than can be fixed in one month, we'll continue doing this in July until we've gotten this thing to fly right.
Thank you for your feedback. Keep it coming and we'll keep fixing it until this is resolved.
We deeply apologize for the mess. We will try to do better.

I think that would have been a better response.
