Elite Dangerous: Odyssey Update 1

  • Fixed the display of Superpower rank names and progression in both Horizons and Odyssey.
Oh please, please, please, be the fix I need to finally get past Squire. I've completed Knight missions a dozen times now (if not more) and it's been driving me nuts not to see how far I've managed to grind out my reputation. Hopefully this fix doesn't regress the progress I've made in the past 24 hours.

Looking forward to testing this out, thanks to all the team for the hard work!

And now a PSA.

Fair play - that's an impressive list for only a few days work.

Still no apparent fix for not being able to launch Odyssey from Steam without being told to update (even when you have) so I guess it will stay uninstalled for now, but good going devs. I'll keep an eye on it. Hopefully you'll get it into a release state soon.

Many thanks for the update Sally, and all those hard at work fixing the game, it is wholeheartedly welcomed and applauded.

Personally as a backer and life time pass holder, I am going to completely sit this one out (including Horizons) until FD have ‘fully’ released this version of the game as advertised, in its fully optimised state, which logically lets all admit, won’t be until the console release, so whilst I am happy to see that FD are acknowledging the multiple faults of EDO, bug wise, I do sincerely hope it is in a playable state in the future; right now as a release it is not.

On the same issue this is not a beta, FD have released it as intended as a full release. This is somewhat upsetting, yes people paid for alpha access, not beta access, but a full priced finished game, not for a broken game, which is unfinished, and which was probably rushed to meet a fiscal deadline, which if correct on the whole is not cool. It’s doubly uncool as many hoped FD were above such things.

I was surprised when EDO was first aired how ‘little’ content it contained, and how focused it was on FPS gameplay, and it’s refreshing to see reviewers now highlight this too, I’m not talking about ship interiors (well I am) but it’s obvious this entire endeavour was formulated not around bringing additional life and scope to an already brilliant game, and although I acknowledge the new planetary tech is impressive - and maybe you should have just left it at that; but the primary focus it seems, was to try and corner a certain market, and attract a certain demographic.

However, to then see EDO go from alpha to release state so soon! That was really the insight which just identified how FD potentially perceive things.

Right now, we’ll this should be seen as an opportunity; I feel this is an ideal opportunity for FD to listen to current reviews and their community feedback in regards to the shallowness of EDO, and maybe take on board some of the constructive ideas posted in response to EDO and put some additional content into the game, and not just focus on the FPS element.

I understand the FPS element will attract a certain demographic, but this will (and is already showing to be) rather shallow, repetitive and in the longer road ultimately tired. FD may make a bundle but their reputation may not recover, if EDO is just a damp squib.

As a backer my investment in the game at launch has proven to be beneficial, the EDO addition is welcomed and I truly hope to enjoy it, OK sure it’s not what I was expecting but still it has potential - once it’s fixed and optimised. However FD should utilise this opportunity to grow and evolve the game, my only concern is your newer audience is unfortunately paying for something not fit for purpose- at this point in time and that the core of EDO may ultimately fall into obscurity along with your new audiences attention.

On this, I'd rather not waste an hour doing that when the QA team has duplicated my issue, but not actually put a timeline on a fix for it, the issue I'm having is literally preventing me from progressing on the ground as I cannot get mission rewards, nor can I pay off my fines without switching to Horizon and possibly losing missions, I've lost 15 missions doing that, so I like to make sure I get all my missions done prior to doing the switch.

Here's hoping these fixes improve performance and address some of the graphics problems I've been having.

It's a step in the right direction, I hope.

One thing I would request is please filter out crafting mats from being sold when you sell goods; I sold goods to a bartender, thinking they were just vendor trash only to find to my horror that I had sold stuff I needed to upgrade my suits and the like, too, with no buyback option to get what i sold back.
