Elite Dangerous: Odyssey | Update 9 Notes

The scarab never lasted long against small arms fire anyway. Its best defense is the Miyagi defense: no be there (it's sufficiently maneuverable that you can avoid the worst of the fire long enough to get out of range and repair, then make another pass or two).

I found the twin repeater turret to be absolutely devastating against NPC. When things went pear-shaped and I was swarmed by guards, i would jump into the Scarab and absolutely devastate them, then come out again and loot to my Heart´s content. Or if I needed to steal something in a base full of twitchy guards, I´d go in hot and wet to begin with. Skimmers were much more of a problem, imho. Maybe it was an attempt to stop that and force ppl to actually engage on foot? If so, pretty lame. Fixing imbalance with more imbalance only causes circle-domino.

Problem is jumping into my scarab when things goes haywire is also a risky gamble as it takes anywhere from 5 to 10 seconds for my cmdr to spawn inside the srv.

Meanwhile both me & the srv are still taking damage (weirdly, I can still move my cmdr around while I'm in the process of loading into the srv).

Ok weird. I usually park the Scarab at least in partial cover, in a ditch close by or behind a corner. Aynway, if that was the issue at all, I would have preferred if the NPCs just took cover from vehicles, and reemergy only once I reemerge, instead of throwing themselves blindly into the meat grinder ( otherwise, they aren´t that dumb. they are pretty good at flanking), And/ or even better: Let settlements have some sort of shield that blocks repeater fire, and force the Scarab to stow the turret in the vicinity of settlements, like when you approach your ship, only like 150m around any inhabited sttlement, wouldn´t that make sense?

No. The option to fire from your srv should be there if you are already hostile to the faction settlement. I wonder if anyone has tested whether the commander being on the ship matters. It seems to me like my ship is tougher when the scavengers/guards don't know I am in it despite there being about the same number of them shooting at it.

The issue with the Scorpion as it currently exists is that small arms fire is still as effective against vehicles and ships as starship weapons are. There's really no reason why man-portable weapons other than possibly the rocket launcher should be able to deal noticeable damage to a ship. As it stands, a team of enemies with laser rifles can strip the shields off a Federal Corvette in under a minute, let alone an SRV.

There's no reason that man-portable weapons should be able to do that, and there's no point in having a combat SRV when it would actually make more sense in most circumstances to be on foot.
I agree, the balance between personal weapons, SRV and ships are so off. The Scarab deals much less damage than most personal weapons. The Scorpions guns are not very effective against personel because it spreads to much. So you will run out of ammo in the scorpion in no time, and then you are sitting ducks in that thing.

But today I just got tired of it all, the bugs kills the experience. I just had finished powering up a station in my Maverick suit after first killing scavengers in my Dominator suit. Then when I was heading back to my SRV, the game crashed (again) with "Blue Cobra". The instance reset, I lost the power regulator. The settlement was filled with scavengers with two more ships incoming with more. My ship left instantly, the SRV was blown to pieces in seconds and I stood there against 15-20 scavengers in my Maverick suit. So I ended up with a fine, blown mission and lost reputation. So I'm tired of the settlements, blue cobra, scarlet krait, hunting for settlement defence plans and all other stuff to unlock the engineers. Its like farming simulator at its worst.

Reduce power of personal weapons. Reduce strength of person armour and shields. Make non armoured personel one shot kills with any weapon.
Increase/improve the firepower of SRV and Scorpion mounted weapons. Increase the armour on the Scorpion. Allow SRV and Scorpion engineering
Consider reduction of ship weapon power, ship armour and shields.
In terms of combined arms combat this could result in a better balance. However, we also need the right battlefields and scenarios to make combined arms come to fruuition.
Scale up the battles so a CZ is just a part of it. Make a conflict require multi stage objectives to be completed. Create the opportunity for more emergent gameplay by making conflicts about taking control of a planet. Force/allow players to find more inovative ways to use the assets of the game.

Scanned the crashed ship. Received intelligence data for both the Alliance and the Empire. It was not possible to hand over data at any station with these fractions. The data is displayed in the list of transactions, but there is no such data in contacts with the authorities. It's in the Horizons.
And as soon as I moved into the Odyssey, the intelligence data was successfully handed over at the very first station.
That is, this problem is only for those who play in Horizons.

Exactly the same happened to me twice... I'm pretty much fed up with settlements (and also other mission types) right now.

Jupp. I wouldn´t mind tricky foot missions. I wouldn´t mind hard foot missions. But some of these are just frustrating, and the balance between frustration and grind progress seems off. Also sometimes, it is not really apparent what i am supposed to do, and what I am not to, or how a mission fail would be triggered. Sometimes it would be nice to be shown a list of consecutive mission objectives, at least once, to be able to plan one´s approach.
And then there are the "nope"-situations. If I have to steal something, and get spotted, it would be ok to have the choice between fighting it out and potentially (high chance) getting shot/apprehended, or making a run for it and try to reach the ship (high chance) before getting shot, but with less loot. It would be great in this case, if an objective is pending, to be able to clear one´s name and try again while the mission timer is still active. But if I board a combat-fitted DMBS with full shields and get blown from the landing pad by guards before the engines spool up (insta-fail), and the settlements stays hostile after coming out of jail, and I can´t, e.g., retrieve an abandoned ship or SRV without being shot at again, there´s something wrong.

Yeah... sometimes you move your pinky finger wrongly and everything goes apeshit. And everybody who's like "you just have to learn the mechanics": NOPE! Having to use an f-ing manual and following it !step-by-step! is not my definition of fun. I want game logic to be intuitive and... yeah, logical. That's what makes good game design imo, among other things.

So you got a nice g5 suit n weps. So now what?
You've done all the on foot czs and 1000s of on foot mats gathering missions in order to engineer the weps n suits so now what?
I've done it all as have alot of others we now ask why?
There's nothing to do. On foot once engineered your pretty much on idle till the next content update.

Do foot missions and CZ for creds, rep and PP

PP and rep yeah.
But it should be basebuilding or tagging goids on foot.
Or some sort of quest chain that's faction related and perhaps covert so on so forth.
There's lots to come I've no doubt.
Just haven't a road map to take a look at and drool over hehe

Thargoid war on foot would be so cool....basically, foot gameplay for all activities would be possible: mining, prospecting, fighting goids and humans for whatever reason, diplomacy missions, powerplay, chain missions....Imagine if you could hold an office at a station your faction controls! Or at the very least rent a customizable sleeping quarter.
