It looks like twitter has blocked the ability to read any tweets without signing in with an account.

Personally I don’t use an account and don’t plan to start as I was just reading FDEV’s news without it. Wondering how many others were doing the same?

Will twitter continue to be the primary tool for announcements for ED?

I think it was possibly the straw that broke the camels back ? I felt that the CM's ( well there was only Sally on the Forums ) were left to take all the flak with no support from those in Fdev and team . So when an opportunity came along to cut the info to when we get it was grabbed with both hands .
I mean there was only so much Sally can do and she was doing the job of about 5 but in the end you ha e to look after number 1 .

It is, (IMO) short term. I don't have an account but do read Tweets from economists, however the longer you block casual traffic the more you degrade Twitters reach. I have no intention of replying to anything, just reading. Musk could put adverts all over this 'read only' part and I'd be fine with that.

Saying that Mastadon and the other pretenders have fizzled with no real exodus surge, so it might pay off.

Threads was announced today. This aged badly really quickly.
The accessing of tweets by non-registered users won't be coming back, it's Phoney Stark's only way of preventing Twitter's data being scraped by LLMs. I deleted my Twitter last year, it has been fun watching the Emerald Minor destroy every single thing he touches.

Then we will see with Threads- the problem is social media is now not really social like it was (the era of Facebook and Twitters reach is over), with one wobbling established platform, one big money rival with many other minor players. The information heft is still on Twitter, and Marks record with Metaverse (and Facebook generally) is not good....will he tempt a lot of people across? My guess is Threads will capture the also ran crowd deserting Twitter but I'm not convinced its going to reach a critical mass enough to topple Musk, even with his crazy new rules.

The other open question is Twitter being scraped for info due to its information density, will other platforms have the same issue eventually as well? Right now Mastadon and Bluesky are busy but not being taken seriously at all by people who matter.
