Proposal Discussion Elite Dangerous Online Store Ideas.

I want to see high end collectibles, similar to Sideshow, Gaming Heads and other companies that make polystone statues - $400-600 range for proper ship models.

Let me put a Cobra on my shelf !

I think FD would make a larger profit if they made 6 inch diecast models for £20

Hmm, I wonder if a large format illustrated "making of" book containing the preliminary artwork & design, interviews by and about the designers, etc would sell widely?

I'd buy that.
And a "deluxe" collector edition too.
At the very least, I hope I'll be able to get a map.

I would buy, of books, if they were translated into my language and international delivery costs not too expensive. It is not forbidden to dream

I have some professional experience with this sort of thing...

...and the top sellers tend to be pens, mugs and USB drives, you know, useful stuff. But apart from this reality check, sometimes a really creative idea (such as the retro-posters quoted below) can have a wider appeal.

I'm sure you have seen the faux travel posters that have been designed for numerous fantasy and off-world locations in the style of old-time British rail posters? eg:

These would be a license to print money. "Deep-sea ice fishing on Europa" "See Fabulous Earth - Where It All Began!" "Lovely Lave - Jewel of the Sector" etc. Commission a set of 12 artworks and the product lines are endless:

How about commissioning classic Sci-Fi or concept artists for this. I'm a Chris Foss fan, if you couldn't tell.

For pure profiteering, I recommend that FD talks to people in the know - to see what worked for them initially. Purely decorative things like ship-models are specialist items and would need to have 'specialist' price-points. However, Valve introduced a great way to monetize hats, of all things, for Team Fortress 2. This created some hilarious items and a great deal of buzz for what became a free game.

Being able to facilitate modding for Elite, in the form of scenarios, models, graphics etc. generates a lot of lasting momentum - especially as it's a classic PC gaming thing (something close to all our hearts I think).

Another thing that really gets the geeks in a tizz is an ARG or 'alternate reality game'. If you can get some spooky events occurring within the universe - hinting at alien contact, a new trade item (raw material or tech), new faction, or whatever - linking that with obscure web-based clues, really fires people up. A great way to generate viral interest for a new update.

Personally, I want a new t-shirt with 'BACKER' in big letters on it. And a BFG for my ship :D

One word, mate - POSTERS!

High quality 36 x 24 in posters - £25-30
18 x 12 prints in poster sets - £50 for 6
Tea-towels - £5-10
Scarves - £10-15
Glasses - £10 each or all 12 for £100
Coasters - £15 for a set of 6

Basically, anything you find in a seaside resort souvenir shop could be marketed to promote the game.

If I had the graphics talent I'd license the rights from FD and do this myself.

Flippin' awesome!
Where could I get one of this poster size?
Cheers,
Mac

I would like some custom cockpits, or maybe just some small additions.

Bobble heads for every ship, with a choice of what kind.

Different drinks for cup holders.

Custom Cockpit HUD and light color.

Even stickers for cockpit windows.

On the price would depend on how complex the change to the cockpit would be

$1-$5 for stickers
$1-$5 for drinks
$10-$20 for bobble heads
Free Custom Cockpit Hud and light color change.

Car bumpe/windowr stickers, 'My other vehicle is a Cobra Mk III'.

Other ship types to also be available as well.

Price €5.

Braben bobble heads for our cockpits. And 'real world' versions for our cars.

Oh and Fridge magnets. You can never have too many fridge magnets
