Elite Dangerous - Powerplay 2.0 Merit Changes

Greetings Commanders.

With the update this morning, we have increased merits from by exploration data by 6x, and all other sources by 4x.

The effect on system scores and therefore system conflict progression remains unchanged.

We have also increased the merit award from all assignment difficulties by 20x
  • This will take immediate effect on any uncompleted assignments at time of posting. Assignments which have already been completed will not be retroactively see this change
This is the first step in ensuring that all activities with Powerplay 2.0 both feel rewarding and are viable in advancing through the ranks quickly, allowing Commanders to obtain the first Powerplay modules in a much shorter timespan. We will continue monitor to both player feedback and data, and make further adjustments to merit gain for activities if needed.
Perhaps you can answer something related to Powerplay, though not so much to the announcement here.

In the weeks leading up to Ascendancy, I vividly recall FDev showing off how proud they were that on-foot decorations in starports would change based on a systems state of allegiance to a power. We would see things like graffiti in support of/against the incumbent power. We would see banners hung from the rafters proudly or torn up on the floor.

With all this emphasis placed on the effects of player efforts on a system visible in a starport concourse, why then was Powerplay 2.0 designed in such a way that the player would never need to leave their ship, giving us no justifiable reason to see these flair changes?

Maybe it's different for other powers, I don't know, but if you're pledged to the Emperor, you don't have a single reason to disembark your vessel and witness the new subjects basking in Imperial glory.

Why don't mission board activities (besides "donate $XXX for the cause" missions) -- both shipboard mission boards and on-foot Odyssey boards -- offer merits as a reward? Why don't the various mission providers in starport concourses not offer merits for activities?

Thanks for the question. I can now confirm that settlement Data has now been enabled, however Rare Goods and Escape Pods remain temporarily disabled as investigate the issue.

Ah, that's why i got zero merits for handing in escape pods as my weekly task individually, but still got the weekly task merits credited.

That's great, Paul, how about exploration and exobiology? Handing over data doesn't seem to be generating merits (or the system description for which system to hand said data too is incorrect).
I can only speak for exploration data: haven't gotten any merits from handing it in at reinforcement systems. No idea if I'm missing something here but I'm pretty sure i tried it in exploited, fortified and stronghold systems - no merits received though. Maybe the scanned systems weren't worth enough credits - Is there a threshold or minimum worth before it "qualifies" for merits?

Just sold over 3million credits worth in a Fortified system to check - no Merits.

I appear to have a little problem....

How do I do the buffed weeklies if I don't get any ?

That happened to me on week #2. They trickled in after a while. Play as you would and watch them flow in one at a time - hopefully.

Actually pretty much every activity in Elite now awards merits as long as you stick to some basic parameters.

O7

Since the parameters are so basic, could you maybe please go ahead and list them? I've been having issues with some activities not giving merts when afaik they should, so I've clearly missed some parameters despite them being basic... :(

Someone mentioned that they got their assignments when they went to a system controlled by their faction. Try that if you aren't already in one and relog isn't doing it for you. :)

I sold half a mil in something or another system, got 4k merits, was a bit surprised at the dead even number but glossed over it because "so explo gives merits and isn't bugged, neat".
Ofc a bit later I realized the 4k was from completing a weekly I hadn't paid attention to, so no actual merits for the data. -_-

Shrugged, went to do some mining since that supposedly works (I'd heard before that it's bugged, or the requirements for getting merits can be flaky), sold 100t mined at the same system, doing the sales 20t a pop (I didn't have the motivation for 1t at a time); first three sales gave merits, last two did not. I have not a god damn clue wth is going on with the merit rewards. o_O

Mining
Trade
Combat
Powerplay commodities hauling
On foot missions
Hacking
Salvage

There's some to crack on with

Thanks, but I was asking for the parameters I need to operate inside of while doing those activities, not for the activities themselves since you already mentioned pretty much every activity rewards merits.

"Since the parameters are so basic, could you maybe please go ahead and list them?"

Edit: As mentioned, I also did some mining, and the merit rewards were being weird. Either it was a bug or there's some parameter I was not aware of that changed mid sales. /shrug

This happened to me in Week 2 and it took a long time for me to get my weeklies. Then suddenly, they showed up.

I have not confirmed this as 100% effective, but I THINK what you need to do is dock at a port your power controls in a Stronghold system, and just open up the powerplay contact's menu.

The codex and powerplay descriptions tell you exactly how to do each activity, which one are you struggling with then maybe we can help?

I'm aware of some of the requirements, having seen a compilation chart of what needs to be done where, and of tests how much they actually reward... and I don't consider the various procedures listed to be all that basic.

However, if you can clarify why I had issues... I'd certainly appreciate it.
I'm just gonna be lazy and quote myself a bit here:

So explo which is allegedly working, and buffed, doesn't seem to be working... Buuut it might be a bug, or maybe I didn't follow the correct basic procedures. Got the quest completed at least, so that was nice; even if I didn't know I had the quest. :D

Mining seemingly worked, but stopped working in the middle of my sale process for no reason that I could figure out (since it was working for a bit, I assume I was in the correct place doing the correct thing the correct way); but again I may be missing a procedure, or maybe something critical changed during the minute I spent selling my load. Best I could tell nothing had though, but I certainly could have missed something. :(

Ok lets take this (cos im trying to help here), who are you pledged to? Where were you selling? What was the PP state of the system? What were you selling?
This all effects how you can sell stuff, you can (to the best of my knowledge) only get merits for mined stuff from the same system depending on the system power state.
Yes its a tad difficult at first but then so was the first Moon landing.

There does seem to be a minimum value - and it gives merits per system, not per page.

One mapped terraformable (or better) seems to be about the threshold in my experience - just FSS-scanning a system usually won't be enough.

Since the parameters are so basic, could you maybe please go ahead and list them? I've been having issues with some activities not giving merts when afaik they should, so I've clearly missed some parameters despite them being basic... :(
I've put together a reference card at https://heatmap.sotl.org.uk/powers/refcard with everything I've been able to find out from my own and other's tests so far. I'm trying to cover everything important until Frontier fix the in-game docs so let me know if you find something I've missed or it isn't clear.

...and that's the problem. The location restrictions on mining and many other activities are mentioned nowhere in the in-game documentation, and some other important qualifiers are also omitted.

(With one exception - undermining salvage/S&R - it's all correct, but a lot of it omits key steps)
