What is "smart casual"? I mean, is there also a "stupid casual"?

How about "relaxed casual"? Or can smart casuals not be relaxed?

Or is this all just a very British way of saying "wear whatever you want and feel cool in (and has been washed recently and still holds together as originally intended)"?

;D

coming in your panties may be "stupid casual"

I'd have two modes of dress:

1. Casual - Worn out jeans (shorts in Summer) and a t-shirt. Every day wear.

2. Smart - A suit for weddings, funerals and court appearances.

I don't usually do smart casual so I might have to split the difference and wear 1. with a tie or 2. without a tie.

However, as Kate Russell (BBC Click style icon - although those knee length skirts really don't suit her) is going in an old boiler suit with an ED patch on it, I thought I might dress similarly, adding a rigger boots and a welding mask to complete the look.

Hmmm, Like SJT have two modes - same as 1) and office wear/funeral/weddings/other events that demand i spend money on clothes i'm not going to get the wear out of.

If it was black tie, I'd hire a Tux no problems. But, I'll be in a either a Super Manx T-shirt or an Elite T-Shirt and jeans/trainers. I want to be comfortable and relaxed, not feeling awkward in hard shoes and suit.

Question, what is everyone wearing?
I know the invite email stated smart casual but that could cover everything from suit with shirt out and no tie, to smart jeans and a t-shirt.

My plan was to wear jeansn elite t-shirt and a fleecy jacket/hoodie (actually the Star Citizen "Redacted" one).

Actually, the second e-mail, which asked for an RSVP said:

Dress code for the Premiere is casual, smart or costume.

So, I guess that as long as you wear something you're fine. :)

Well just for kicks I did a Google Image search (always a risky prospect) for "Smart Casual" and the first image I found was this....

......I guess i've never been anywhere dressed "smart casual" then!
And I would hasten to add that I would rather nail my do-dahs to a burning barn before getting dressed like any of them....erm...blokes. :p

I'm the one second from the right just so you know who to look out for. 😀

Smart casual means...

Trousers rather than jeans.
A shirt with a collar rather than a t-shirt with Iron Maiden plastered across it.
No tie
Shoes rather than trainers.

Personally, I think if we're going to go smart - better to go the whole hog. Tie, dinner jacket, the lot. Even a carnation in the chest pocket. :D

yup, that is it. and also agree with mobius, proper black tie would have been great (for a fan meet never mind). so i am leaving the casuals at home.

this is going to be one weird & wonderful event. looking forward to detail from FDEV on this premiere event

any idea on numbers, how many can the duxford museum fit? must be 500+ by now attending?

I'm coming Kilted, but I'll be wearing a T-Shirt with a smart jacket over the top on entry - but the T-Shirt will be smart and relevant to the event.

If I have to, I'll bring an emergency shirt to wear over the top of it (but I'll not be a happy bunny)

Edit - This, minus the padded jacket and nicer shoes:

Then this custom T-Shirt

I think Kate Russell will be very happy about your kilt wearing. :)

P.S. I wonder if I should add the the kilted theme? I may need a bit of persuading to do so.

Ditto :) Although I'll need to work on the footwear as I don't want to wear the formal shoes, but I usually wear steel toecaps for the Rugby, and they'll be a pain to take on/off at the airport.

I'll come too, along with a friend who doesn't use the forums, but who is also a backer. I also have space to give a lift from the pub to the event for 3 people.

There's about 300 or so budgeted from the Kickstarter, but I think they've been releasing tickets at 50 at a time, so make that another 100. Plus no doubt a few invitees & press etc.

500 sounds about right. :)
