Elite Dangerous PS4 - using hotas x52

Elite Dangerous PS4 - using hotas x52 on ps4 with a cronusmax adaptor

OK So I managed to use a HOTAS x52 with elite on ps4.. but there is a catch.

At least for now, it seems x52 is not compatible.

There is a way to use x52 (or any other hotas for that matter, the process is similar), but it involves a bit of money.

I am using a programmable adapter called Cronusmax. This adaptar allows you to use almost any control in a console or pc...

The video shows me doing a test drive.

Sorry for the terrible piloting, it was my first test after configuring it...

Unfortunatelly for this type of setup, you need a pc to interface the controls. In short... the hotas is configured on the pc, running a program from cronusmax, with the cronusmax hardware interfacing with the ps4.
It sounds horrible, but it works really well. In my case it is worth it. I travel a lot, and i can carry my ps4, but not my gaming pc... and i have a low power notebook, so i can carry it with me, and at least play elite with hotas while i am away from home.

The description in the video has a link to files showing how to setup.

So with this kind of device you need to run au pc next to you ?

The Hotas is plugged in the Pc witch is itself plugged in the cronusmax, plugged in the PS4 ?

It's a hell of a setup but, if it works flawless, it could be a solution for me.

Yeah, that's how it works... looks complicated but it is not really.
And it works really really well. The responsiveness in the controls is there, the only thing is that since we are mapping buttons from the hotas into a ps4 controller, we cannot make use of all the buttons in hotas.

For example, the switches at the base of the stick, i could not use all of them.

But you get used to it, I mapped everything and I can say it is really nice.

If you already have a hotas, purchasing this cronusmax is not a big investiment.

Also since the video above, I have changed keys for the YAW left-right controls to use the right analog stick, this way the yaw controls being analog, gives the proper fine tuning in the control.

if more people get interested, I can make a video explaining and showing the configuration....

I was hoping the X-52 was supported, according to a friend of mine the X-52 does work on the PS4 and he plays that f2p game war thunder with it.
So why not Elite?

There are a few options out there if you want to run unsupported peripherals. They've been most commonly used in FPS games where people want more accuracy and fine-tune aiming you get from a mouse as opposed to a controller.

They can be hit and miss though so do your research before spending the cash on it.

Exactly. In my original post, in the video, I am using a Cronusmax adaptor to make the x52 work on ps4 Elite

Right, you HAVE to purchase a device in addition to a expensive stick or just buy the dam hotas, duh!

As I said, in my case where I already have an expensive hotas, I chose to buy a cheap adaptor instead of buying another expensive hotas, just for elite in ps4.

I am sure a lot of people are getting their first hotas and of course they are better off buying a compatible one.

I am happy with my purchase, since I can not only use the hotas in my ps4, but I can also use my xbox 360 fight stick, among other things.

Anyway, I thought of posting this video for other people that are in the same situation, so that they know there is an option.

Thanks for posting. I ended up buying a HOTAS 4, but damn that X52 looks nice (and sturdy)! If it ever did become officially supported I'd definitely consider getting it (after selling the HOTAS 4 to a friend).

X52 avantages are : A far better quality (you pay for it) and a lot more buttons.
Are you able to map every single button of your X52 ?

After all, a pc nearby is a way to acces third party webites.

I wonder if that can be made to work via raspberry with wine on top to offset the windows only platform, then you get a small interconnecting box instead of whole pc. Plus you can use you high end hotas instead of the thurstmaster "toy".

How many buttons you managed to get to work from x52? :))

Yes and no...
I can map all of the keys in x52, but unfortunatelly I am limited to the number of keys in the ps4 controller.
What i mean is that the adapter is limited to having the ps4 controller mapping, so i cannot have more keys than there are keys in it.... but i can have, lets say, several different keys from x52 mapped to the same one in ps4.
That limits me, but at the same time, I can still have almost the same mapping i am used to x52 on pc.

I would love to have more, for example, if the software from this adaptor allowed me to map a key from x52 into a combination of keys from ps4 (for example, one key in x52 mapped to triangle+square sequence), that would be perfect.
I would be able to map almost 100% of what i have on pc.

But even with the limitation, it works very well.

Awesome you figured out how to manage it, but seems like a huge expense. I would think the PS4 hotas would be cheaper than that setting up - akin to the better mousetrap syndrome. But again, I love stuff like this...

But then again, if one already has one, the additional device is cheaper than a new hotas.
