Elite Dangerous | System Colonisation Beta Details & Feedback

colonization is still in beta. did you expect it to be a complete feature?
They did very publically call it feature complete and say they're just tweaking the prices. It is very visibly not feature complete. We need to hold them accountable if we don't want yet another dead system tacked onto the side of the game.

Sigh, are we still going on with this one?

When the announcement said "feature complete" it meant "this release has every feature we planned". It did not mean "we will never, ever, during the entire existence of the game, ever add any new features to colonization." Something that they already demonstrated for example by reworking and adding the "strong link" and "weak link" behavior and UI, which wasn't originally there when that announcement was made and that update published.

The only mistake that FDev made was using poor wording by saying "feature complete", which was then misunderstood by hundreds of people. But like always, it's impossible to predict how people will misinterpret and misunderstand something said innocently.

Let me guess, you are not a software developer?
I am a developer and I know why this sucks but it's not defensible.

That's not what I'm complaining about their base feature set is worthless as a feature. I don't care if they eventually pretend to fix it in 10 years like powerplay. It's lacking extremely basic functionality. Their this is what we plan suck it, stance isn't misinterpreted there is no misunderstanding. This feature isn't worth having in the game as it stands. They can remove it and come back in your magical future where they actually put more work into it or they can put the work into it now but what we have isn't worth having as a feature.

All your stance does is give them a green light to add more nothing and then you can spend a decade asking for it to be fixed while most players ignore yet another huge piece of dev time. Fix it now, fix it properly or remove it. No eventually during the lifetime of the game it might not be horrible.

I have not read every post in this thread, but it looks like you are now ranting without giving constructive feedback. Could you please list the functionalities colonization is missing in your opinion? One thing I wish Frontier would add is the decommissioning of stations and construction sites, albeit I would not be using it for now.

To paraphrase Big Damo like I did in another thread, some people have low standards, I don't know what to tell you.

I am starting to get really frustrated by the randomness of things inserted into the entire process of colonisation.
The lack of control is maddening at times.

I did another 'side project', this time a tripple star system with 8 Space Slots. Intention was to get a primary High Tech Economy and especially H.E. Suits on the market. As such, I started with a Coriolis, something which I could easily do even before solo in the Cutter (let alone the Panther).

Again, this didn't work out as planed. I got the HighTech Interior all right, but the market is not what I had hoped for.

Luckliy, as this system is a bit larger than my first side project, I slapped in another dockable station (in this case a HighTech Outpost), which has the H.E. suits I wanted, just that it is some 135.000 ls away from the main star (ok, this is minor inconvenience these days, as I can simply hop into a Cobra V, Corsair or Type 8).

I know it is still 'Beta' and all, but progress on the Beta seems to be awefully slow, communication about what the end goal and which state is planed basically non-existent and thus, from discussions with other Architects, I get the feeling that I am not the only one that fears we end up with another half-baked, never-finished feature here, especially with Vanguards around the corner now.

Give us more direct control of the economy at least please?
Allow us to select what is sold or point out clear requirements for each good to appear and please fix the mixed economy mess that weak links and overrides cause.
Economy Influence by bodies need to be toned down a lot to be able to neutralize them if we want something different.

Colonisation is systems we don't need in places we don't want to be that don't work properly.

Without engineers, material traders, prison ships, megaships. You just end up tied to the bubble as colonies are missing any form of benefit over using NPC systems which actually are near all of the stuff. Those are the super basic things that are missing. There's more but you can just go read the thread and I'll not go on a rant which won't be constructive.

Right now you get a better colony by parking a fleet carrier in an NPC system than you do by actually building a colony. It's just lacking in the very basics that give it a reason to exist. A 3% discount in some systems and some names aren't enough to redeem it.

My name certainly isn't redeeming...
