Patch Notes Update Elite Dangerous: The Guardians 2.2 update

It used to be the case that you could copy the content of the beta folder to live, then the update process would identify the files it didn't need to update, thus speeding up the download.

However, I recently read that now all you need to do is make sure Enable cache check and Enable virtual cache are set in the launcher options and the download will intelligently transfer files.

I'm on a 2meg broadband connection so I so both. It's still 9 hour plus download for me :(
Not sure if it's working correctly. I've done the copy thing in any case since the last update took 24 hours for me.

""The goal here is for heat not to be a primary damage mechanism, but be there to punish your target for doing things that generate heat spikes such as SCBs, boosting or firing the hotter weapons. We also want to make it so that it is never worthwhile to stack a lot of heat weapons together: You will get the new full effect from a smaller number of weapons than before, but it can never get anywhere near as deadly and stacking more weapons beyond that point is counterproductive""

I thought you already get punished by stacking Incendiary Ammo because you already get overheated.
What it means now? If you meet player with Thermal Shock you will not be able to fire Incendiary at all. UPS..
Also it means player with Thermal Shock can use SCB but you can''t. That's sound like absolute tomato.

I dont think this is the good balance. Then overheating from firing icendiary also should be reduced by 50%.

I think they were referring to using heat to overheat the ship / module damage over time as a primary damage source rather than thermal which relates to superheated projectiles against hull.

If I'm reading this right the pre-load for XBOX One should be available now for 16 minutes. Still not showing up on my console. Did I figure the time wrong?

This is bloody marvellous!!! But here's a dumb question: When can my we (PC users) start downloading?? Not until the servers are back up again in 8+ hours?

The Xbox update should automatic trigger when you next run Elite Dangerous, it can take a bit of time to propagate, so you might need to give it a nudge by power cycling your console - (holding the power button for 10 seconds and switching off the PSU until the light goes out).

I'm guessing this will be from scratch as your beta is completely separate from the main game on your local hard disk.

I know it is on a different folder but on the previous update (1.1 The Engineers) the launcher update copied the beta data from the beta folder to the main game folder and updated them in a couple of minutes instead of downloading everything from scratch. Previously we would have to copy manually the beta data from the beta folder to the main folder if we wanted to save download time. I don't see a reason why this can not happen now unless something fundamental changed in between beta 7 and final 2.2.

Much excite. Congratulations Frontier, and good luck on the release today. I'll be joining you on the live stream for the release party this afternoon.

That would be brilliant as my net connection at my new house is slow for downloads.

FDEV this is a huge update and hope it all goes smoothly for you today :)
