Elite Dangerous trading needs a NERF

I mean, seriously.

16,000cr/t/hr!?
Really?

That's just too good!

If ED is about the "long game" then cool.

Most players see trading as the way to make money because it's the only way you reliably can. Especially with 3rd party support.

But honestly, buying goods at one station and selling them at another with barely the slightest of risk...

Pays the most!?

How???

Why???

Why is this a GOOD THING?

An entrepreneur owning a mining haul company makes more than a stock broker.

A celebrity makes more than both.

You want people to play other ways then space trucking?

Make the profit margin more narrow. Simple.

Now there's more incentive to mine.
Which means more pirates
Which means a reason for more bounty hunters and profiteers.

Those people obsessed with space trucking will keep on space trucking.

But it won't be so unbalanced as yo force others to trade, just to be able to afford an FDL.

Plus, let's be honest, things like Sothis, seal-clubbing, terrorists, and Powerplays initial smuggling run happened because the game is too weak and there isn't enough consequences.

There isn't remotely enough risk.

I'm sorry.

An 8 million smuggling run over 490 ly should have a timer of 30 minutes, have cops, pirates, bounty hunters everyone tailing you like a high speed chase in Los Angeles. And just like a LA high speed chase, unless you're incredibly lucky, or incredibly skilled, you ain't getting through.

The game is pampering to sheeple instead of allowing the best and brightest to earn their keep and pay.

It's too easy.

Water is chummed. And NO, I'm not kidding.

If you want "balance" in the impossible odds and long haul to earn something, then DO IT.

Either that, or let's just call it what it is with the haulers and space cows now immortal to interdictions.

16K credit per ton per hr in say an asp/T6 level - which seems to be a middle of the road trading ship.

lets say it is specced to 104 tons (balanced load out) which makes just over 1.6 million an hr. Even now mining, smuggling & combat can beat that and yet the trader is having to invest a fortune of their own pocket if they get attacked they can lose hrs of profit where as smugglers are just middlemen with no outlay other than their ship, and miners and hunters also only have their ship on the line....... And the police/crime are laughable so hardly a threat.

The only real threat to the smuggler (if in open) are player pirates and again you are potentially better equipped to deal with them in a smuggling ship than a trader... but even if not, you still do not have any money invested in your cargo.
Heavy traders like the T9 make more money sure, but again their investments are even bigger, and the cashcow IS vunerable to attack from AI pirates and what not, and if in open, she can forget escaping from a player pirate or worse a player killer

You sarcasm meter is serious broken.... either that or your double standards are even worse than I 1st feared.

Trading actually takes some work to find good routes IF you do not use online trading tools (you cant balance a game based on the assumption that people will cheat.... if you do then those who choose not too have an even harder time of it)

I just read your edit. I do agree with some of your improvements however and would welcome increased difficulty and tight timers on the best paying missions.

Last night in my non-A spec Asp with 104t loadout I did 700k in bounties in 30 mins at a RES....not a HIRES or HAZRES but a RES.....I could have made much more if I went to a HI or HAZRES so 1.6m cr in an hr trading is nothing much

If you feel that trading is overpowered for you (it was always the best way to make money, back to Frontier - Elite 2!), then choose another career path. You have the freedom of choice. Don't start complaining on the forums about how others are not playing the game the way YOU want it to be and the devs not forcing them to.

BTW, if you think that earning credits is the major goal, then you still haven't understood what Elite is about.

I'm getting kind of annoyed how FD arbitrarily changes game rules without any reason, just because someone whines over it, rather than fixing the bugs that have been there since the beginning and are really annoying. Or doing stuff like actually adding new features.

Ok, seems like a good thread to address this.

You really believe after months of FD not listening to players, they now all of a sudden decide to make a swift alteration in their game mechanics because of it?

Come of it. FD has looked at the mechanic and found it broken. Disagree with them all day long, that's your prerogative, but if you actually think FD made smuggling missions more rare on account of complaints of forumists, you're quite delusional.

Neeeeeerf.... Khaaaan...

Must be wednesday.

I guess yes - for a change FD needs to make some other activity number ONE in category most CR per hour...maybe Exploration or Combat just for a change to allow other people who do not like training to be super rich ;)

Just don't do trade, instead eat those who do. MMO is not about gameplay, is about how you can use other players for your fun.

Really?, complaints since Frontier 'nerfed' the missions are at least ten times higher than those who were calling for the missions to be toned down a bit, so based on your deep and meaningful, (and entirely groundless), insight surely Frontier are going to put them back, because, y'know, the bleating is off the scale now.
