Elite dangerous turns mic down really low

For whatever reason. Elite dangerous seems to turn my mic down when I'm tabbed into the application. So I can't really talk to people over discord while playing

I've tried turning off exclusive control but this doesn't help

Is there a way I can disable elite dangerous from doing anything to / with my mic? Or changing which mic it reads from?

erm not sure about this but check where you set up a microphone for speech recognition's mic volume level in windows
ie check what value is set on the mic there

windows control panel then speech recognition with mic symbol that may be the value the vol% its going too if so turn it up
else check ship control settings menu misc tab
I have mine set to microphone mute caps lock
mute button mode toggle
microphone state mode push to talk
else check the game main menu audio settings player voice sliders etc

Why would that matter here? Surely all that is doing is setting the mic gain? - Which is also set via the sound control panel:

If they can talk OK outside Elite then there should be no difference.

Unless you are using voice chat in the game it should have no effect on your mic - I record audio from my mic when making videos of game play - there is no change to my mic there.

Be interesting to find out what is causing this for the OP.

did say I wasn't sure but I recall a reg error where the value set there when setting up mic for first time overid value set in control panel gain as you mentioned
turning it up to 100% there and op will know for sure
hes no longer here so looks like hes resolved it any hoot

One thing occurs to me, which you mentioned earlier @STRONTIUM DOG - perhaps the game is trying to "mute" the microphone. There is a control to mute the mic and if it is set to "toggle" rather than "hold" then maybe that is causing the issue:

This is really weird. I checked to see if my gain was being changed and it's not. Even if I tab into the Elite Dangerous launch for some reason my mic levels go really low

I attached two files so you can see the difference in voice meter. The DB thing isn't being changed in windows but whatever is happening is changing before the sound gets to voice meter

that's weird as you say under adv
if both boxes unticked nothing should be able to adjust the mic level except windows sound properties or your soundcard suite properties which is basically the same thing with different skin with additional effects etc

Alright. Soooo I want to thank you both for taking the time to try and sort out this problem for me..

I found the solution.... My microphone is a blue-yeti. Recently the G-hub has incorporated yeti support (This is the main driver hub)

It has a profile switching function that detects when certain applications are active

For what ever reason it would change my gain on the mic (not through windows) to 50% instead of 100

So I want to apologize because there would be no way anyone would of figured this out. But thank you both for helping me help myself

np a lot of problems arise somewhere between keyboard and chair ;)

I in fact fell foul to this not two days ago where mine was 5 versions old lol
