Elite Dangerous | Type-8 Update (18.08) | Wednesday 7th August

I was looking forward to seeing Power Play 2.0 - I guess that's coming far later than a new ship and a few changes to a database somewhere in the bowels of ED.

I'm sure it's going to be a quality of life for those that still want to buy and upgrade ships/modules but for those that have reached their limit it's not much to show for ten years of Elite Dangerous.

Why remove RNG from the game and then just add it in a new place. It's nonsensical and lazy.

Hope the PP2.0 is going to have a bit more scope and emergent game play with little but preferably zero RNG. This isn't Warframe - missions and sites shouldn't need to be re-done like Warframe, it's a large galaxy and there should be a lot more content to explore and lore to discover with rewards to allow more content to be done elsewhere in a non-linear progression.

One of the partner streamers stated that the T-8 will be available for purchase with credits on November 7th, I'll assume they didn't just pluck the date from the air, and it seems a reasonable suggestion.
They must have done, as no information of the sort was provided by fdev to us.

It's a solid and reasonable assumption however and I also think that it's what's gonna happen.

What FD have not told anyone is that the T-8 forms the torso and arms of a giant robo Lakon mecha.

It's actually true! Especially with the long double spoiler at the back. Top-down view with engines facing up does indeed look like a Transformer.

The 2 "pillars" at the front then become legs.

I can't post a pic though, because the cockpit at the bottom between the "pillars" looks like... it looks like..

How do I put this without banning myself...?

Powerplay 2.0 is coming in September. Calm down. It makes sense to get the engineering balance changes in first on launch of 2 new ships

I really hope that's the new feature. I'm thinking something like Devastator from the 2005 Transformers movie.

FDEV will have to REALLY increase the material drops then.

Couple of questions.
I see that the Python MKII is now available for credits for Odyssey only
Will this be the same situation for the Type 8 once it gets a credit release?
Yes

Will the engineering changes be for Odyssey only or for everybody?
The changes to ship engineering are for everyone, the on foot engineering is Odyssey only

Pretty sure the Australian government would not spare the time of 5 MP's until 11 PM just to apply Elite Dangeorus update...
For some reason I had never considered Australian Military Police before your post.

Rather than having random materials as rewards how about introducing material tokens as rewards?
Lets say you are a Commander within the top tier and can expect to receive 20 materials of 6 different types, for 120 total, what you actually receive is:
2 x G4 Raw tokens (adds 20 for two different raw materials)
1 x G4 Data token (adds 20 for one data material)
1 x G5 Data token (adds 20 for one data material)
1 x G4 Manufactured token (adds 20 for one manufactured material)
1 x G5 Manufactured token (adds 20 for one manufactured material)
You could then spend these tokens at the Material Traders and top up whatever you need.
Yet another currency and a blow to those that don’t do missions.

Probably based on this, answering "when is the T8 out", from the livestream:

Zac:
The 7th of August of August a week from today

Arf:
It'll be in early access and then I think it's early access for three months - like the Python - and then it'll be in game for credits for Odyssey players

Zac:
Yeah exact. So exactly what we did for the Python Mark II you can expect for the Type Eight.

7th November is a Thursday. This far away I expect it's a little approximate.

Tricky without letting us see the picture.

Unmentionables perhaps.

Acktchewally my post was addressing the material rewards for contributing to taking a Thargoid controlled or invasion system...
Got any better ideas or constructive critique to resolve the randomness of the material rewards?

I think @Mr_Fy was referring to the Thargoid war contribution rewards, and the concept that as it stands you might be full of only two types of G5 materials, and there's a chance that those are the two that are randomly picked to be allocated to your reward, meaning you get nothing for that contribution under those circumstances as your bins are already full. By allowing redemption at a material broker, it allows the pilot to select their reward as and when they need to, rather than losing out through an unlucky RNG roll.

That said, rolling the redemption credits idea into the mission rewards would also mitigate the RNG rewards of missions too, so not a terrible idea in my opinion, but I can see how that gets dangerously close to materials for credits.

EDIT: Ninja'd
