Patch Notes Update Elite: Dangerous Wings 1.2 (Wings content update) incoming

PSA: The shortcut for the debug camera is not a debug shortcut; it is a normal keybind combination. If you have any one of the keys bound to another function (like assigning Ctrl to mouselook) the camera won't activate. You need to manually bind it to an unused key.
 
Ok, how is everyone getting the camera to turn and face their ships? I can only get it to go forward/backward, side to side, and tilt left and right.
 
The Wings feature is very welcome and I like it but the game remains unchallenging and in a Wing the encounters are trivialised. Cruising around the galaxy is still extremely safe and I never feel endangered, or challenged for that matter.

If this game is going to thrive Frontier either needs to create a huge more amount of playable content or empower players via an eve style emergent game dynamic. Ironically the latter would offer endless hours of gameplay and require far less development effort and resources.

Agreed.

I still think they need to sit down and play some of the space sims that have come out in the last 20 years - look at their mission structures etc, one particular game I keep mentioning on and off on the forums is evochron mercenary, I love how the AI at missions will remember you, come stalk you, wait for you outside stations, wait for you to be damage in your wing and launch an attack on you and your buddies etc, they feel intelligent with motive and thus you are more immersed - play some Epoch (or have a look at what that team does as they really know how to give people toys to play with in a sandbox that gives us 100's of hours of game-play immersed in doing whatever we want, not just imagine we can do everything we want).

Do they have a team dedicated to missions/mission design and scripting? If so, where are they? Again like a fair few other aspects of the game, why wasn't it figured out much earlier during the design phase rather than having to react every time - the AI (friendly fire in war-zones etc) seems to of had no real thought put into it before release thus it's reactionary fixes to things that should of been foreseen/considered much earlier, especially if you are into and or are passionate space sims.

It's all been said before though, hopefully in time as it's still one of the best base engines for a space sim and in cockpit experiences.

(Edit: Don't get me wrong, I know many things need to be tested in the wild, but some things simply require foresight and passion for the project probably helps.)

Another patch already!! (date 11/3) - just spent yesterday with a 4hr download and now another one today!!
PLEASE sort out the download speeds or dont do daily patches - I dont mind which, but please do something!

Yeah hopped on to play the new Wings functionality but then greeted with the update in 20 minutes message :(. So didn't really get much of a chance to try it out before getting booted off. Doesn't look like there are any release notes for this patch either... (at least not yet). And no idea how long the update is going to take.

Oh you're right - servers are back up - must've been just a hotfix I suppose...
 
thanks for lowering fuel prices with the new patch, now I can get rid of the fuel scoop and add more cargo space.

Yeah, sure, I agree with that sentiment. But a lot of the core of EVE became a grueling, repetitive chore pretty quickly, especially if you were just starting out, and/or planning to stick at it for a long time, and with the added bonus of having to pay nearly 20 bucks a month for the privilege of watching your skill bars slowly creeping up. I'm not really qualified enough to comment on which development path would or wouldn't take longer, but as this update has shown so far, it's going in an encouraging direction, and it's a welcome addition to the game. As for emergent gameplay, well, I feel there's already enough things in the game to allow you to make your own rules up to some degree. It just depends how creative you want to be about it. If I were finding combat that easy, I'd probably start deliberately downgrading my ship and see how far I could go. Could I kill a 'conda in an Eagle with one laser? Not hugely creative, but emergent nonetheless, no? That, or play in Open for a while. How about playing musical chairs at an outpost? :D
 
what is this new patch today ? I game keeps crashing tp desktop when I go to supercruise

the newest update apparently has cause some stability issues, but the devs have already posted that they are rushing another update to hopefully fix the issues
 
All that list looks cool but just tell me please if trading/quests were fixed in some way? To make trading look like real trading and quests not so broken and easy for money grinding?
 
then something is screwed up somewhere because mine says 1hr and is hardly moving.

And no sooner had I downloaded that patch ANOTHER one came out - madness. I am not your tester and you send me 4 hr patches.
(you wouldnt know it, but apart from that, I think the Elite team are the best in the world!! and I suppose I have been waiting 30 years for an online version, so 4 hrs IS STILL 4 HRS!!) ;))
