Elite does not see my new joystick.

  • I just got my Constellation ALPHA joystick with the WarBRD-D Base from Virpil. I used the Virpil software and believe I set it up correctly having used it before.
However when I get into Elite Dangerous it does not see the joystick. I checked the 32 box but doesn't seem to make a difference.
Elite does see my MongoosT-50CM3 Throttle. I am hoping not to have to use 3rd party software like Gremlin or Vjoy but I will if I have to hoping I remember how to see it up.
    What am I doing wrong?

now supported by edref eg https://edrefcard.info/binds/jwaosc (many diffrent user cofigs to try)
first try this with just the new stick plugged in
sometimes your existing binds can stop new device recognition (device id)
so remove your binding folder from the fd directory and sling it on your desktop for now (game must be closed)
this will create a new binding folder upon game startup and may detect the new device off the bat if that dont work try with just the driver installed
you should then be able to test the device using one of the many user configs bindfiles from edref card linked above
i cant advise you more as i dont own a virpil
once you have the devices all recognized and working this guide will help you fully customise and rename your control method
so you always know exactly what file is being used within the binding folder if you want diffrent binds for diffrent ships ie multiple binds setups
it may help you avoid any pitfalls too
once all done you can use edref to generate your own ref card using its generate function if ya gona custom tinker binds to suit your
preference https://edrefcard.info/

happy tinkering ya bindings o7

NB Some pc usb ports have limeted ma output and a mains powerd usb hub or dedicated usb pci card may be required to succesfullly power both devices else you may have gosting inputs or device recognition failure you may wanna check your pc power settings is set for max performance also

Alpha witrh WarBRD base should work, many use it (me too).
So, what do you mean by "Elite does not see my stick"?

When you are in the bindings menu, you select one of the binds and then twiddle the part of the stick you want to bind, what is happening?

Oh, and regarding the power supply issues mentioned above by @STRONTIUM DOG - definitely check this. The Virpil/WarBRD are a bit power hungry. Did you set up (in the Virpil utility) the LEDs to light up, and do they light up when you're running ED?

i presume hes sorted it as he repped my pinned guide and did not reply here 🤷‍♂️
but i beleve it may have been a failed device id in the bindings file.............
hence elite would not see the device to make any kinda change or rebind

Nothing happens. It won't take a binding. I try to assign a command and hit the button or hat on the stick nothing will happen.
Elite acts like a key was not selected, it doesn't see it. Elite will only take an axis assignments but no button or hat
I have the 32 box selected (in hopes Elite will not see over 32 buttons).
Do I need to use Gremlin or V joy to tell Elite I don't have over 32 buttons ?
I had this problem 3 years ago with a Virpil Stick but I don't remember what the solution was.

Sounds like elite "sees" the base but not the stick.
1) call me captan obvious, but did you set up the stick fully according to the Virpil instructions matching your firmware version?
2) do the buttons work in the windows joystick tool (don't ask me where to find it, I'd need to ggogle that myself)? Alternatively, what does the Virpil Joystick tester say when you trigger those buttons? Can you post a screenshot of the tester - with VID and PID?
3) when assembling the stick to the base, did you insert the cable correctly?

IIRC the Alpha only has 31 buttons:

in windows devices and printers properties(pc settings control panel) if the button pushes are not detected there in the windows test function thats what i meant in my guide when i said "ensuring that your control devices are all plugged in and recognised by windows first"
the game certainly wont see them if not detedted there first
as the device is being detected axis only its not a binding device id issue
this is a hardware issue atm as the cat said the stick(buttons are behaving like its not physically connected to the base proper

did they forget to plug in the the button assemby leads to the top of the stick
that would be poor show if true?
the way mr bean rewires the plug here is beyond hilarious what is funny is out of say a 1000 attemps and pure chance luck that may actually work if the phase and neutral wires sperated and touched the pins
