Elite 'elsewhere'

Where have you seen elite reference, or later refered to.
not as much copied, as it is elite.
anything before elite refers to..like the thargoids, and 2001.

The docking sequence, and music.

2001 was made in 1968 about 15 years before elite, maybe the thread should be how many scifi reference has elite taken from elsewhere.

Elite was inspired by a range of sources. The developers cite 2001: A Space Odyssey, Star Wars, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and the original Battlestar Galactica as influences. Braben also cites the works of Larry Niven, Jerry Pournelle, Arthur C. Clarke, Robert L. Forward, Isaac Asimov and Orson Scott Card as influences

Before, what obviously wound up in elite.
After, where elite was the influence and almost directly referenced.

Its why I asked.
I havn't played the hundreds of space games over the years, many might reference elite to some degree or other.

im a big scifi fan got loads of games but thinking about it I cant think of any reference to Elite, not saying there isnt any.

I read this as meaning spot the things that are referenced within Elite. Anything before THAT elite refers to

So, like OP said, 2001 (docking), Kaptian Kremmen (Thargoids), I will add Star Trek (Tribbles)...

Interesting! I didn't know about the Captain Kremmen origin for Thargoids; I'd always assumed it was a pop culture reference to Tharg, the alien editor of 2000AD - a comic that was essential reading back in the day Elite came upon the scene.

The Blue Danube has been forever associated with Elite in my mind from playing it as 8-12 year old whereas did not see 2001 until years later and it did not make that much of an impact compared to years of repeated docking sequences.

Species 8472 weren't based on Thargoids, they were based on the Shadows from B5, sorry. Allegedly (citation needed) Foundation Imaging used the same base models for both species.

Also allegedly, some elements of Elite's planet information and system data were based on the Traveller RPG.

Influenced by Elite:
X-BTF and sequels
EVE Online
Most X-WIng and Tie Fighter titles from Lucasarts
Wing Commander / Privateer / Freelancer
Basically any computer space simulation owes its existence to Elite.
Farscape
Firefly / Serenity (also listed as the series most like Elite in Ian Bell's opinion)
