So your farraguts are big, slightly bigger than an Imperial Star Destroyer in fact, but they're not nearly as well armed. And, most importantly of all, the Federation doesn't have 25,000 of them.
Watch the first five minutes of Episode IV again.
It's called plot armor, and they have very thick one in star wars.

Not even fair. Faraguts are indestructible. They just jump out for a few repairs and then they come back.
The only way to take the Feds is a CG and Darth Vader only have like seven bounty hunters or something.
Siths are just to nice as well. They could never match the evil of Core Dynamics management.

I really haven't been a fan of or kept up to date with the newer installments. Gave it a shot after attempting to have episode III banned in 17 countries (may have made that up) and is just missing too much magic.

It's well documented that ships in ED have godlike accuracy.

Always had a problem with Jedi and Sith - not two sides of a coin - same coin - egomaniacs with some weird parasite infection that makes them think they have "powers" - and the Imperials are only mildly better armed and organised than the rebels - I think Wall-e could beat the lot of them with one hand tied behind his back
Now the Hutt Cartel - that's where the real power lay - and in Elite we have good old "Spud" Mahon... he's your Huckleberry

Voted Elite. Just pack them full of railguns and let them ignore the heat damage as they blast every Tie Fighter, Star Destroyer and occasional Death Star to pieces.. Who needs a targeting computer to hit that exhaust port, Elite Federation NPC's have 100% railgun accuracy!!!

Considering the sheer disparity in technology between the ED universe and the Star Wars universe, there is no contest that the Galactic Empire would win.
Their ships have more firepower given their surface area, superior weapons technology in general, better armor and hull materials (multiple instances of star destroyers crashing to a planet's surface, sustaining nearly no damage to the overall superstructure) systems that can temporarily disable other ships, and while admittedly their FTL technology is slower than the FSD equipped to smaller ships in Elite, the capital ships have to make use of the slower hypderdrive tech, which means they are substantially slower than Imperial star destroyers.
