Elite: Feet should come with perma-death - Discuss

I reckon it's C.

I wonder how long until we see "Copy of Cmdr 13A"?

Although in my case it's liable to be "Copy of Copy of Copy of.................

Gameplay > realism.

The current respawn mechanics make no sense at all as they are: if you die 65K from sun you immidiatly respawn in the last station you visited. Your escape pod has a FSD with unlimited range that consumes no fuel...

Permadeath or wait X hours before beeing able to log again must be optional for hardcore roleplayers, and they can already do that becouse they can wait to log back in or they can delete their save.
If they want to introduce these mechanics I'm fine as long as they are optional.

Well, the current mechanic is highly implausible already. I died on the other side of the core and was instantaneously back in the bubble...

When we get feet I think the most plausible mechanic would be c. Although I don't like the wait 24 hours aspect. Players will be angry enough without making them wait to restart.

I also like the idea of c when they finally make black holes deadly. After all, when you're crushed out of existence when you fall past the event horizon, no escape pod is going to save you...so a way around this is just before crossing the EH your ship transmits your most recent memories back to the bubble and inflates your clone quickly.

The cloning system in my opinion is the more "realistic", but it seems that FD don't want to make it part of their game. Never heard in the lore, never read in the books. I don't think the idea is copyrighted, but that would be a copy-paste from eve online.

I would be fine with starting a new commander, as long as I can leave all of my assets to the new guy who takes over for me.
In other words, you only lose what was on the ship. Your bank account, stored ships & modules, and ship insurance is payed out to your replacement.

So what you lose is your Pilots Federation rank, faction rank and reputations. And you gain an opportunity to re-name your commander.

From a game design perspective, introducing mandatory permadeath into a persistent multiplayer game that has been running for almost two years would be idiotic and catastrophic.
If it's optional permadeath, then that's already available for players via deleting your save, so I'd say that implementing it further would be around the bottom of the list. Frontier did promise an optional ironman mode, and I guess it's sort of there? The implementation would have been in its separate instances though, like "ironman-only open play".

It's going to be B for obvious reasons.

A) would result in a dead game as the vast majority of people do not want to lose everything upon death. One only needs to see how devastated people get when they fly without rebuy and get blown up.
C) Would result in a dead game as the vast majority of people do not want to be locked out of the game. One only needs to see how antsy people get during outages and maintenance.
D) see above.
