Elite Hard Mode

Okay,

So we have a core of players that believe we should all play open all the time, and would like to force/incentivise people into it. Indeed, people have been called carebears, cowards, even mentally weak for preferring solo or group mode.

This is a load of piffle.

Indeed, many of these core of "pvp-centric" players are really missing what would truly separate them from the weaker players. I propose we call on Frontier to implement

Flight Assist Disabled Mode

In FADM, no players would be able to ever toggle flight assist or rotational correction on, docking computers would be prohibited, the docking window would be reduced from 10 minutes to 3, and fines for failing to dock cleanly increased 250%.

Support FADM, the only way for the true hard-core of Elite.

I'd play that, but only if you couldn't farm credits in other modes and then jump right back into FADM. Otherwise it's the same old "have my cake and eat it too" that the rest of the game currently sponsors.

I am trying to figure out why I would care someone else doesn't like the way I play a video game... It just isn't coming to me.

Their enjoyment and satisfaction, or a lack there of, is not my problem.
So I reiterate. Why would I, or should I, care what they think?

I already fly assist off at all time, so I am cool with that.

You guys are like crazy aerial ninja's.... Anytime I go FA off permanently it usually ends with me on 10-20% hull and praying I make it to the next dock/outpost without incident...

Still though, sounds like a cool idea for those who can handle it :D

Simply takes practice.
I came from Evochron Mercenary so I found assist off to be not so difficult to "master". More a matter of learning the differences in the flight/physics mechanics.

Practice, practice, practice.

Indeed, I plan on it.

Currently just struggling with countering the angular momentum. I mean, I can input the translation commands well enough to get the ship where I need it to be, its just that I'm really having a hard time countering the thrust from the previous translation movement on-the-fly while I make the 'next' manoeuvre in sequence.

Incredibly frustrating too, as spatial relations etc have usually been a strong point of mine. I do think though that the artificial translation limits - while less noticable with FA off are still present - may be hampering my efforts, particularly yaw and to a lesser extent pitch. (I find the g-force or black-out/red-out mechanic in star citizen particularly good for allowing very liberal manoeuvring, but also stopping 'turreting' )

OK, engaging with this thread with tongue in cheek, but ... we could also add '1984 controls mode' which deletes lateral thrusters, yaw and reverse as well. Now try to dock...

Funny you should say that.

For the past five days, in response to the sheer lack of moment-to-moment challenge, I've been flying, fighting (rarely) and docking 100% FA-Off.

It's an extraordinarily rewarding experience, I must say. Every smooth docking touchdown gives me a real endorphin happy-fix.

Those times you need to race through the docking port at speed in Silent Running mode (illegal goods on board) are truly nerve-racking, and require 110% concentration... and some good fortune.

However, I still think I could survive perfectly well in the galaxy without weapons. Heat sink ejector, chaff launcher, shield cells and thruster/capacitor upgrades... makes me a slippery little sucker any time someone actually manages to pull me out of cruise. :)

Not sure why this would make me "pvp-centric".

I am sure that my weird way of playing doesn't magically make everyone else "weaker players", as you put it.

[edit]Note... don't rely on auto-merge. Sometimes it doesn't!
