Elite has Grown Beyond its Capacity. Is it time for a new Elite game?

I remember when old elite gave you missions, they where special and few. Trading was its core money generator. I think original didn't have missions.

I think elite it just getting to a good place. So many things to do, and are going on.

A bit more realisum would be nice. Let's not turn it in an arcade game.

Then don't read the thread about people wanting to be able to teleport to any of their ships at any time! https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...-our-ships-to-start-with-at-beginning-of-play

Will still suggest to you all again.

Lobby frontier to remove the mission board, or ignore it yourself (hint, like you used to). Suddenly elite returns to bliss. And all issues are invalidated.

Go sully yourself with the lowest common denominator and you have a clusterfrack of expectations and frontiers desperation reactions from releasing code changes where they dont test the edge cases of of the procedural gen.

They should hire some technical testers to do it. If the developers build some internal api's some savvy testers im sure could automate generation of edge cases (based on understanding the bgs rules of generation) for any new change. Create some simple rules based on design on what would be a defective result (mission payouts at 0 credits or above 10 million eg) and just automate it. /armchair

This would assume a rational, robust design.

I see a lot of expert in this thread, gathering around like vultures.

I wonder, with so many QA Experts, Game Design Experts, Programming Experts, and Game Industry Business Experts, why don't you guys stop flocking around the forum and start building the product you say you know 'would defeat all'?

Used to work in Game Design
Used to be a Programmer
Used to be a Graphic Designer (who learnt to spell!)
Used to be a 3D Designer, builder and animator (for games and industry) (3D Studio Max and Maya)
Used to work as a User Interface Designer (damn those customer interaction groups and their silly ideas)
Used to work with QA Teams on a daily basis

But then I'm not saying we should build anything else or scrap Elite Dangerous as I love the game.

Personally lot of people think if competition of ED comes, game will be dead.

I don't think it will. But any new game will certainly add more realistic expectations to the field. Currently is 'why devs can't do everything at once' attitude I personally don't get it.

And btw, I love ED. It is complex game, done by people who love franchise and love space games. And it's community - while bickering and arguing - is still best out there.

Remember Destiny and its 10-year plan?

Remember how it was just a line from share holder report and how it was actually meant that they would release lineup of games for Destiny universe?

In ED case it was quite clear from beginning that wishes and dreams and ideas are huge, but actually implementing those will be step by step process. Whatever you call it - 10 or 20 year plan - as long as ED is fun to play and people will play it, ED will develop stuff for it.

There is competition. E.g. look at "Sea of Thieves". OK - you are pirate on a ship on earth - not in space - but the basic concept is simular: Huge world where the players can "do what they want". Mission system (with to few mission types). "Wings". You can upgrade to bigger ships. You can earn "in-game-money" (in this case gold).

It has just started but even at the start E:D was much better *g* This makes me hope for E:D's future... They (FD) - with all flaws and bugs - still are way beyond....

Ciao, Udo
