Elite Horizons non-Steam, on Quest 3. How?

Just bought a Quest 3.
PC, Win 10, ED non-Steam (bought from Frontier store)

Oculus account is set for "use outside sources" or whatever that formulation is (and it worked with Quest 2)

I've somehow managed yesterday to have 5 minutes of gameplay in VR on Quest 3 - it's fantastic, worlds better than 2 - took the headset off to show it to others, then the view changed to passthrough, battery run out, had troubles with charging etc etc... but now for the life of me now I can't make Quest 3 accept ED. So yes it worked, PC is up to the task.

In ED settings, under Graphic options, 3D is on OFF and the window gives me only ANAGLYPH or SIDE BY SIDE. Is there a simply ON?
What am I to do?
What settings I need to change in ED/Oculus?

Thank you.

Were you using AirLink at the time? If I take my Q3 off for more than a few minutes while connected wirelessly then the connection drops back to passthrough/headset menu and I have to reconnect.
Had you accidentally knocked the headset to put it into passthrough view? Two taps on the side of the HMD will put you back into the game/menu.
If there is no HMD option in Elite’s menu (eg. “HMD Headphones”) then Elite isn’t seeing your headset - what I’d do is connect the Quest 3 using Link (I use a cheap USB3 to USB-C cable), restart Elite, select HMD Headphones in the options, check Elite VR works, then reconnect with Wi-Fi.
I’ve not had any charging issues with my Q3, and I get about 2 hours battery life using AirLink - the only charging issues I’ve heard of are related to the official battery headstrap which are subject to a recall.

  • exactly your first point, I was using AirLink, took off Q3 to show the others and at that time it disconnected
  • no, not accidentally going into passthrough

Currently at work, but with your precise insight and advices I guess I'll make it work later in the afternoon. (so many new things to learn with this new-for-me VR thingy)
Will scream here early evening if I can't.

Thank you so very much (y)
