That's the key. But the game forces you to do things you don't enjoy in order to progress. I spent 5 hours one Saturday doing things I didn't enjoy because I really needed upgraded FSD range in order to lessen the pain of long-distance travel.

The game didn't force you, you chose to do it.

How on earth did you manage to stretch it out to five hours ? given how easy everything is to get. Also if you don't like long distance travel the last thing you should do is engineer a long jump ship you'll not enjoy doing things in it. Engineer a ship specifically for the things you like doing.
