elite keyboard ...

been using a 20 year old northgate ultra that I LOVE (found it NIB on ebay). recently got turned on to the DAS keyboard --- almost the same clicky feel as the northgate but... a little added bonus. Check out the pics (and after viewing the pics you'll forgive any slight spelling errors :))

I think this should be standard issue for all commanders ... talk about hardcore... no labels on the dump cargo/silent mode buttons (the white keyboard is the northgate for comparison)....

I'd bet real cash that one of these will still be a better keyboard. They last forever!

You may need a PS/2 to USB adapter though, and yes, it's not black. But you could just pull the keycaps off and bask in a sea of beige :)

You may also need headphones - they are loud :)

I have a model M... a few actually.
I like the buckling keys on the northgate better... and believe it or not, the feel on the DAS keyboard is far better ... and I'm a huge fan of the IBM "M".

The northgates last for an eternity --- the DAS is growing on me, but the northgate is a beast ... all metal, double shot key caps, buckling springs... but the das looks pretty hardcore black with no letters :)

Are we sharing keyboards?
Had this for 11 years. Along with all the normal keys there is Play/Pause, Stop, Mute, Volume control, Foward Previous, Back/Next, Stop/Refresh, and home page. This keyboard has saved me many many seconds from manually clicking.

I've got the DAS Keyboard, but I piked out and got the one with the labelled keys.. guess I just aint that hardcore. Absolutely love it... it's a real typists keyboard... and you could hit it with a brick and still not break it. Expensive, but worth every penny. I had a Logitech G15 gaming keyboard before this.. the extra keys would have been useful in ED, but the keys were absolute rubbish to type on.

What's the glowy on yours? I don't have that...

Cherry MX Brown Switches. Fantastic, variable backlighting so generally have it low, also fits perfectly between the 2 halves of the HOTAS :D

I still love the A1200 keyboard but have yet to find a pc keyboard apart from the IBM XT original one that I like typing on.

I had a Steelseries 6gv2 before, equipped with cherry MX black switches, it's great for gaming but i prefer having a little point of resistance right before the key registers.

So, right now, i have a Corsair Vengeance K70 with cherry MX brown switches, and i'm in keyboard heaven ^.^

MX Brown UNITE :D

I was torn between that and TK, I knew I'd be happy with either but the smaller footprint swung it for me. Glad you;re enjoying it :)

You have a tenkeyless keyboard? How is it for you? I mean, i don't use the numpad all the time but I do it quite a bit and I know I really dislike its absence on my laptop...

The K70 is still small enough for the thrustmaster hotas X, it has just enough cable to fit right in. :D

I like it - you can switch the right-hand block between Elite's layout (INS/Home keys etc) and the numpad by using the numlock key. I rarely do anything but game on my tower so the extra space on the desk and closer mouse/KB arrangement suits me fine :)

Oops talk of keyboards... My eyes are all a sparkle. I play keyboard only (no mouse) always keen to try old and new keyboards.... Tactile dangerous finger tapping fun

My precious SteelSeries 7G...

I converted it to ultra low power wireless about a year and a half ago. I expect it to run on a pair or AAs for about ten years (yes, I am serious). I've desoldered/resoldered the MX switches in it twice: from the original MX black to MX green, then to MX clear. And I am thinking about changing them again to MX blue. Or maybe back to greens? Who knows? :D

I've also replaced the original keycaps with semi transparent front-side printed ones. It's more badass that way ;)

I'm a programmer by profession, and I always thought that the most important part of a PC configuration is the keyboard. It is my pride, my passion, my joy... Yeah, I'm just a little crazy...

I've always liked the Dell SK-8135, mainly because of the volume and availability...

Though I'm quite tempted by this little mechanical one I've seen:

Also, for use when I'm "locked in" to my chair with the joystick/pedals etc and reaching over to the desk causes my shoulder to go all twingy I bought one of these:

Which was surprisingly good for ~£20 (The trackball is really useful in the map screen)
