Elite on PS4 is getting some pretty darn good reviews

Congrats! It's well deserved. This game is a space sim gem that gets better with time. Only Elite Dangerous has a 1:1 scale simulation of the Milky Way galaxy that's shared among multiple platforms.

That's not too surprising. I mean let's face it, for all of the bugs, the lacking features, the network problems, the wishlists not fulfilled, and the imbalances, for all of the beige worlds, the long ship transfer times and the broken mission payouts, overall Elite Dangerous is a pretty good game. Most of us who complain, and I admit I'm among them, have literally hundreds of hours played with the game, some are well into the thousands of hours, and are still playing regardless! More importantly, there isn't another game out there quite like it, in scope nor in playability. There just isn't.

Elite Dangerous is pulling off something that's never been done before, and doing it fairly (mostly) well. And while the game does deserve criticism in certain areas, it also deserves a lot of praise for the things it has gotten so very spot on.

And so it should, as it mirrors what happened on the xbone media. Games like this are a rare thing on consoles and the investment on FD side is like a shining endorsement that consoles are growing up...have grown up. We still cant and likely never will rival the pc in terms of graphics and fps, but we can still enjoy the game on a somewhat more limited platform.

Console gamers been crying out fer games like this fer years, especially those space based normally niche games. There are a few space based alternatives, though nothing that can even touch elite in terms of complexity. This is a first in many ways fer many different peeple, not least console gamers themselves, but also frontier themselves.

As much as any of us can sit and criticize them fer other game aspects, I can still recognize a touch of brilliance and class in what is happening with this game. Its not perfect, but what game could be after pulling 3 different platforms into the same bgs? Frontier have done what many others have said fer years couldnt be done, and as an xbone player meself, I thank them fer this if nothing else ^

37% are 1-star reviews, and the complaints are what I would expect: bugs, connection issue but mostly the difficult learning curve and lack of orientation.
I can entirely understand, and I am not surprised to see more people playing and losing interest almost immediately, rather than spending (a lot of) time until it starts making some sense. I know I did it because I love flying, love space exploration and recognized the potential, but it took me a week just to figure out how to dock/undock and probably a month to configure the controllers and understand basics (I am a slow learner I guess).

I don't own a ps4 or Xbox, but coming from the PC I almost lost friends by convincing them to buy and play. I got to the point of gifting ED when there was a Steam promotion... no joy: a few will enjoy it; most will hate it, makes sense for me. But I think FD has abysmal communication skills, and people are buying this probably thinking its Star Wars Battlefront or something. Of course, on FD defense, things have improved a lot in recent patches, the tutorials too.

Well deserved Fdev. The difficult learning curve is for the casual player or also other players a problem, but when you understand the game it is a lot of fun. It is no Star Wars Battlefront or something like this, but when you make promotion for a game fighting, action and explosions sell better then you can trade and explore stuff. For new players is this maybe a little bit disapponting when they expect action and they can't even land in a station. I mean you can do all this stuff, but first you have to learn how things work in game.

Great to hear. Well done for Frontier and it bodes well for the future of the game and ultimately all the players of all the platforms. While the tutorials could be lacking especially little direction on using using the individual thrusters to help with learning to land, imo, most of the complaints of the game are trivial considering how much has been achieved and patience is just needed for them to implement their ten year plan where there are still immense technical hurdles they are trying to overcome.

Glad it's being well received, but this is still the best Elite review out there :p

Ugh I know. My partner was keen to try it. 5 minutes into the docking tutorial she was like "THIS ISN'T FUN" and pretty much rage-quit. It's not an unusual reaction - its like you have to really be enthusiastic before you start because the learning curve is such a trial by fire. :(

which is one of the things i love about the game. Not a big fan of all the hand holding that goes on in games nowadays.
