Elite Plastic Model Ship Kits

Since the ships and all other assets are 3d models, it would be a very simple matter, depending on what 3d Modeling packing Frontier uses, to convert these into .STL files and sell them as downloads on the store so we could 3d print our own models.

Guess my truck is being parked outside, seeing as I'll need my garage for my Lego Cutter....

This is roughly what I am seeing in my head - but obviously shaped a touch more like a Cutter...

Z...

If Frontier sold ship models or even just .stl files I would buy the hell out of those. I want a fdl, cutter, asp... basically every ship on my desk!

Too my knowledge they sold the 3d mesh once for backers but to a Price that was beyond good and bad but just mad.
Don't know what happend what happend that. Eighter no one bought that or they never delivered or they idea was scraped?

There is a guy that seems to have extracted the data from the game because he showed an youtube Video with various ships at scale and a planet Station in the unreal engine. He could walk around and he offered the scene as download.

I wanted to check into his file once and see if I can extract the data from his extraction so I could use it in blender and maybe print me a 3d model. But I never did.
I don't understand FDs politics here. Why not offering the models for free or to a payable price so everyone that loves ed could print or render his or her ship?

well they have to know..but it is a big missed oportunity to maake evryone happy and some Money along side for sure.
The Outcome now will be more like everyone will pirate it somewhen somehow through and no one will be happy at all.

Am I the only one who would love to be able to buy, build, and paint plastic model kits of my favorite Elite Dangerous ships?
Would love to be able to build a little Cobra and display it on my desk.
I'm surprised Frontier hasn't jumped on this already .

Being a model builder since I was a child I would love some cool detailed kits of the ED ships.
But I am not sure if there would be enough people interested in this to make it worthwhile for FD.

I doubt they'll release anything official to allow 3D printing, would be a mistake from a business point of view to give away an asset that they MIGHT decide to sell at some point over the coming years remember this ios a company that's been around for over 30 years they don't feel like they have to move particularly quickly at anything to retain customers.
