Elite: Reclamation lore related to in game discovery?

Yeah, I think this may be a good lead. I'm tempted to swap back into my Asp again, only this time I'm going to be thinking about its armaments. What are people thinking about for the armed Asp?

Alternatively, if the Courier has a good jump range, I may make the trip in that come 1.3 in that (after all, that's what Kahina went in, right?) - though I don't know if I want to wait until then.

Anyone know what the minimum jump range to get out there would be, my Adder was struggling to get the NCG 7822 at 25 light years a jump
An Armed Asp (with cargo bays) can still top 30 light years a jump so sounds sensible

This is what I plan to take but am not sure if she can make it

Well the description at the end of Reclamation is identical to that of the woman in the Oolite saga. Now, will there be any clues in those books as to the Formidine Rift? I know it's mentioned by name in the 3rd book.

Also, i'm not certain the NGC 7822 Nebula, is on the course mentioned in the book. When I checked, it took me someplace else. Basically, I lined R&R as best I could (zoomed out, until I could form a perfect eclipse on the galaxy map), then made sure the galactic plane lined up to the 2 systems as closely as possible. I then hit 'W' on galactic map, and it sure didn't take me to that Nebula, by a few thousand light years. Maybe I did it wrong?

Choccy - that is the same method I used. I was zoomed out enough that as I got close to the edge of the local arm, I was in the same sector as the NGC 7822 nebula and observed that its star pattern formed a line that seemed to run almost parallel to the course I was using. Since it was the only POI in that area, it seemed like a reasonable place to start at the time. I may have missed something regarding it, I'm not sure, but I didn't find anything while I was visiting it.

I believe there is a vague description in the book (something about dozens of lightyears at a time) ... may have to re-read it.

Right, on my way to Heart & Soul, but around 600LY out I ran into a Strong Signal Source. It was two Anacondas and a T9. No idea if this means anything, but it was quite far out for a SSS.

Hello,

This thread got me out exploring again. I love these kind of misteries! I did not read the books though, so I'm just following the hint here, which isn't a lot with 400 billion stars around...

I'm following the line described, and if I calculated it correctly, it takes me past the NGC 7822 and the Heart & Soul Nebulas without touching any. I'm just 4.000Ly out at the moment, so still quite a way to go.

If I understand correctly, she was "way out to the edges of space", and kept going "to the edge of the galactic arm". Which galactic arm? I'm plotting my route right now towards a single neutron star system right in the middle of the most outer arm, around 14.000Ly away. The only reason I picked this system is because it lies quite in the middle of the line I plotted, and it's the only special star I could find around. But it's still not really at the edge of the galactic arm, for that I think I would have to go even further out. The system I'm targeting is PHOI AESCS PI-B D13-5, in case someone wants to check it out in the galaxy map and correct me if I'm horribly wrong, before I venture further...

Anyway, I guess I'm going to have to read the books...

I couldn't possibly comment. ;)

Cheers,

Drew.

No need to Drew, pretty obvious to anyone who read the books and the subtle mentions by said old Elite pilot to events.
Most obvious were the Python she took down in a basic sidey and a pulse laser and the Thargoid mothership she took out with the quirium cascade mine although that bit wasn't mentioned, just threw that in :)

Arrived at Heart & Soul. Whether it's the right place or I find a thing is another matter...

I'm wondering what that T9 and Anacondas were carrying. I keep thinking back to FAUST (FFE fiction) now...

From Galnet news today:

Leaked images from the Avalon shipyards appear to indicate that Senator Kahina Tijani Loren’s Imperial Courier, the ‘Seven Veils’, is undergoing a significant refit just weeks after her recent visit to the Sol system.
Security at the Avalon shipyards, which are owned and managed by Persephone station, is extremely tight. The images themselves are grainy and ill-defined, but seem to show that the drives, shields and possibly the frame-shift drive components have been significantly upgraded.
Sources within the Empire note that Senator Loren has been seen at several significant social events within Imperial space recently. Despite this, she has refrained from speaking to any member of the press since returning from Sol.
Speculation is rife as to her involvement with the ongoing struggle for power within the Senate. Loren has yet to declare her support for any of the leading contenders, a fact which some political pundits believe is a strong indication that she may be considering her own play for power.

If the rumors are true, I'm joining Lady Kahina without a second thought.

Also, David Braben said in the AMA that there will be exclusive modules/components to specific factions, could this mean we could have better FSDs for our Imperial ships?

This could be the BEST news, as two of my Elite dreams would come true:
1- To serve Lady Kahina
2- To explore the galaxy in style.

Im about 3500 ly away making my way there too. Maybe see you there

ps... It's a bloody long way

Yes it is! And it's going to take me weeks to get there due to RL...

If you want to add me as friend, as we are close, feel free to. Maybe we can collaborate on the search! My Cmdr name is Dargo Losan.

added. Only 1 thousand ly away now. But feels like a billion

This is a bit of a double-edged sword, it would be great for Kahina to be one of the powers, otoh sucks for the other 19 NPCs who aren't Kahina, she's gonna get a lot of followers.

A perusal of the Galnet feeds over the next few weeks and months may make things a little less... nebulous.

Cheers,

Drew.

Ye know too much!

P.S.: I am so going to support Kahina Tijani Loren if that becomes possible in 1.3 (barring any surprisingly more tantalising alternatives).

Accepted, and saw you on the galaxy map. I see though that you're headed towards the nebula. I'm going to skip all the nebulas and head directly towards the outer arm. As my time is limited, and the nebulas are already very well investigated, I'll try my luck further out.

I arrived last night and had a quick explore. Its a big nebula with hundreds of stars. A lot have been mapped already, it's true. But I'm still hopeful.
We're looking for a needle in a haystack, only we have no idea what the needle looks like or even if we are looking in the right haystack.

Been around the H&S nebular area for ages looking for anything out of the ordinary.
Begining to doubt that that any developer in their right mind would put any content 7.5k ly away from anything.

Also read a couple of lines from one of Drews old books.

Thargoid attacks on outlying systems. Only last week transport ships travelling via Teorge were raided
/snip
Thargoid incursions in the Formidine rift appear to be increasing dramatically.

So guessing the formidine rift isn't way out but (much) closer to populated space since there is zero human interest so far out, and it would take thargoids ages to travel the distance.
