Okay,
I bought the Elite few year ago super cheaply in some steam christmas sale, and it didnt gotten under my skin. Recently, I started playing with idea of trying VR, particulary puttin my smartphone in the cardboard goggles, and thought elite may be excellent candidate for that. I bought Horizons, not-cardboard-cardboard goggles and got into setting up my game. It proved difficult. In-game Side-by-side mode produces only distorted image.
Like this:
So, I spent last week googling the heck out of it, and found out most of the threads, YT tutorials and solutions are from years 2014-15 and not viable today. What fragments I could gather, didnt work out for me.
Option 1: Setting ultra-wide resolution to the game via Nvidia panel, overstretch the game to compensate basically: Didnt tried that out personaly yet, becuase I hear from everywhere its not working anymore, leaving that to the last ditch effort.
Option 2: SweetFX shaders, that make the game run in good proportions
Issue I: As I said, everything I could find was old, and as such, links to files dead.
Issue II: I found one custom shader files, in one youtube tutorial still working.

While the ratio is corrected, lense effect and barrel distortion in that configuration make everything look like surface of the globe (even the flat holoscreens), so its replacing one problem with other really.
So. Is no one playing Elite in VR these days? And if some of you do, can you share your magic how to do it?
Much appreciated
