Elite vs Reality - Earth view from the Moon / Saturn and Titan

I love these kinds of posts. Just shows how ED can be so authentic in the replication of the galaxy, if our own system is so realistic.

CMDRArkam, can you do me a favor, as I dont have a SOL permit and i'm curious.

Can you orbit earth and see if you can get any known constellations? i.e. big dipper, orion / orions belt, northern cross, canis major etc..

I'm genuinely interested to see if it's possible or if they can be made out. Awesome!

Good post, you also have to remember that visuals also take a certain pinch of salt though.
You pop into any system right by and facing the sun yet you can see it clearly.

While there is a small amount of handwavium in everything i like the fact your pictures show how close to real life you can actually get inside a virtual world.

Known stars position relative to each other are correct, so yes you can spot most constellations from the Sol system, as in real life Orion is the easiest to make out, and from there you can easily identify Taurus, Gemini, Leo, the Big Dipper, Pleiades...of course they don't appear the same as the real counterparts, all the associated nebulosities are enhanced like in a several minutes exposure (you can make out the Barnard's Loop practically from everywhere in the bubble), also stars apparent magnitudes are way off in most cases, but given the engine limitations involved, the Star Forge is still making an impressive work I can say.

Absolutely. The Star Forge is something I'd defend FDEV to the ends of the earth with. It's a master piece.

May I be so bold to ask if someone can put a screenshot of Orion's belt up? Shame I cannot transfer in game currency as some form of honorarium :(

Re: the zooming in, you can use DSR, alt-f10 and solo mode to get a 16k screenshot from a 1080p monitor. Might be worth a look if you plan to do more of these AWESOMECOMPARISONS.

A pleasure...sorry maybe I've been carried away a bit [big grin]:

All things considered, pretty much spot-on dare I say. [up]
