Empty galaxy

OK, so please excuse the noob, 'how do I play this game?' question, but...

Where are all the other cmdrs?

I've been playing in open for a couple of weeks but havent seen a single other player. I've been around Engineer's systems, been shuttling refugees out of a burning station, been to a couple of Res sites but havent seen anyone else. I'm not looking for a wing/sqdrn but, really, am just looking to justify the cost of Xbox live and, right now, it feels like I'm missing out on a key part of the game.

Is it because I'm on Xbox, so PC & PS4 don't show up?
Am I just not noticing; I assumed that there'd be something obvious pinging up in the Info panel or on the scanner.
Is there a setting I need to switch/check?

Some systems (the "popular" ones) do have a bit of traffic, but the experience could not be pleasant if you are not properly equipped.

Popular systems = by number of murder attempts.

Yes, being ganked would be an unwelcome confirmation that the Galaxy isnt empty, I havent been to Jamieson's for that very reason, but I was expecting to see some other activity: around the Evangelis system for example. Does this suggest that there are more players causing grief than there are players supporting game events? Pretty pish if that's the case.

I am fairly new to the game as well. (maybe 1 month into the game) and besides my friend that got me into the game, I have only ever seen 1 human player. We crossed paths, doubles back, did a little wiggle of acknowledgment and carried on. We spent a few weeks in the bubble and have been on the road towards colonia for the last week now. It is a very desolate game from what I have seen so far. We are on xbox as well, same username as on here. hopefully see you around!

Evangelis system? Never heard of it. You do realise there are literally 10,000+ systems in the bubble alone, plus the 100s of billions of other systems.

More players causing grief? Nope FDev has confirmed that PvP makes up a very small percentage of the gameplay in ED.

Wherever/whenever you have been flying, consider yourself just un/lucky, depending on how you perceive the game. There's loads of Cmdrs out there, the vast majority of which just doing their own thing in their own backyard.

Evangelis has a burning station, being evacuated: I thought I might see some other cmdrs there.

Maybe, instead of exploring the outer reaches of the galaxy looking for strange and unusual sights I should look in my own backyard for something strange and unusual: other Cmdrs.

Hang out in any of the Engineer systems or Jamestown OP

Yea, Go to Deciat and lurk around in supercruise or even fly around Felicity Farseer base on Deciat 6 A - in normal space, within base no fire zone.
You should meet some commanders assuming you play in Open

Otherwise, you can check inara.cz for best price for LTD and go in that system (it may change on a daily basis, past tick time which i think its 14:00 GMT, but not sure)
Today's best systems to sell LTD are: Arare, Mbutsi, Nankul

Edit: and of course, if you have an Elite rank, you can always count on some activity in Shinrarta Dezhra

I'm on Xbox, am currently based up in Colonia, and I see a human CMDR every time I'm on. When back in the Bubble, I only really see human players when in the Engineers' home systems. But really, head up to Colonia. It's great for trade and exploration (I got 40m cr just from the journey up there) and there are several regular Xbox players, flying a range of ships. Couple of Alliance ships, a bounty hunter in a loaded T10, couple of Mambas, me in either T9 or Python or Asp Scout, there are several regulars.

Its odd because you should see some in Deciat, or burning stations.
It's actually an event when you see another commander instead of them just being part of the scenery like eso.
It's also a huge relief when the Krait you see is kitted for xeno hunt, or someone gives you an 07 instead of ganking on you.
Unfortunately the lack of CG has killed the piracy which i actually miss a lot.
If you go to Pliedes stations like Malthus you'll see xeno hunters.
If you help IDA with their repairs you will be passing each other regularly at the target station and their discord community is an excellent place.

Or just add people here from the looking for friends thread. The little green squares will at least make you feel less lonely. You'll be surprised how close you are to people and your paths just don't cross.

And yes we desperately need crossplay.

I'm on Xbox as well, have seen a dip in players during this long period without new content. That said, I usually have 30+ friends online at any given time.
If you want so have a lot of interaction with other players in open, PvP & piracy is the way to go.
I'm glad to see new players that don't buy the "block & solo mode" mentality that is so often advertised here and other media outlets.

I was so cautious about moving from solo to open: now I'm wondering what the fuss is about!

I built a decent ship, got to grips with most of the game mechanics and I'm wondering what's going on in this massive galaxy. Turns out; not much. So this is a notable 'quiet' period with regards content? I was drawn to the game by the news of generation ships, of distant world expeditions and such. Doesnt seem anything like that is going on at the moment. I've been to Guardian and Thargoid sites, seen burning stations, have flung my SRV across undiscovered volcanic landscapes but... it does feel like there could be so much more.

Is this what the next release is going to address?

PC CMDR here but this is relevant for all platforms.

There are plenty of players on all platforms, you just need to know how to find them.
For expeditions and such, they are usually coordinated via https://edsm.net as well as the Fleetcomm Discord Server https://discordapp.com/invite/0hKG2qb9ODixa7Iz
There are a few expeditions going on right now, you'll find them on EDSM as well as their respective communication servers.
Personally, I'm on the Perseus Reach expedition currently.

There's also tons of different player groups you can join, depending on what your interests are.

I'm a Hull Seal for example. We fly around the galaxy helping Commanders who damaged their ships and need repairs.
There's also the Fuel Rats, they're the same but for those who've run out of fuel.
Then there's the Anti Xeno Initiative (AXI) mostly focused on fighting Thargoids.
There's Operation IDA who deals with the burning stations.
And so on and so forth. There's plenty to do, just look around.

I personally prefer it this way. One of the things that eventually turned me off to ESO was that it felt more like a theme park than an actual living world, thanks to all the "tourists" (players) running around waiting in line like Disney Land. When I encounter a CMDR in ED, it feels much more organic and real, even if it is a rare event.

Nobody really knows what is next or when it's going to happen. They've mentioned Fleet Carriers for a few years but I don't see that bringing players back, I imagine it will be about as useful as multicrew.
Something you try a few times then forget.
It is frustrating, the lost potential.
The galnet news thing has been blank for a month, haven't had a CG in a long time.. people are moving on.

[...] haven't had a CG in a long time.. people are moving on.

That has been the most frustrating thing for us... as we were always present for our robberies and raids, ready for the pews with friends and cops.

Now... well, doing some BGS and being at war with factions that show at hour home claiming they want our heads on their cockpits.

Badmike, you have a killer outlook. The game needs more excited open players like you.
Add me if you like, I'll send you some discord invites. I know a few groups that just shoot Thargs or Repair stations, meet up for stock ship PvP, pirate miners, (rebelyell, im looking at you..)bgs wars etc. Getting to know the various open play player groups really breathes life into the game.
Gt is Meatloaf Seagal

Also, if I shoot at you someday.. it's because I care.

If you ever wanna give PvP a go, there’s a link in my sig. Good chunk of the Xbox PvP base there.

You’ll find some of the best, some new guys, and everything in between.

Many would be happy to build a ship to match yours, and take some shots at you.

You’d be welcome to join us in a little unsanctioned space ship murder as well, should you chose to do so. Embrace the gank.

@Cirrus Flare
@Meatloaf
@Cknarf

Thank you for the info and invites; delighted to blow you out of the sky someday.

I'm amazed that Frontier arent doing more to engage players and support player content. Has this game had its day, or is this just the dry spell before a monsoon of carriers, content and cosmic craziness?
