Endless idiocy. More of the same.

Ethiopia
Population: 102.40 million (2016)
GDP: $87.30 billion USD (2018)

Famine
This faction is currently unable to source a sufficient supply of food for its members. If the situation goes on for much longer they run the risk of incurring mass illness or civil unrest.

You really trying to defend illogical nonsense in a video game using a country that hasn't experienced famine in over 30 years? I'm sure when they were experiencing famine and crop failure, they weren't exporting anything.
Maybe Somalia would have been a better example.

... despite progress toward eliminating extreme poverty, Ethiopia remains one of the poorest countries in the world, due both to rapid population growth and a low starting base. Changes in rainfall associated with world-wide weather patterns resulted in the worst drought in 30 years in 2015-16, creating food insecurity for millions of Ethiopians.

The mind does boggle somtimes when playing this game.

But the forums have become truly bad on nearly all fronts.

I have to ask in a game where player to player trade is near on imposible how does one have his stuff, never found that one funny. (yeah in Eve it makes sense.)

Even if you work in the pentagon i am pretty sure someone/something going to be upset if you start to hack in to the servers.
If they had full control over the outpost they could download the data from orbit. "-Can't do that Dave"

Can i call you names now?! Nerfhearder!!!:p

Happened to me the other night, but I found it amusing...

I accepted a planetary scan job for the BGS faction I'm with (allied, obviously), not realising the target is also us. So I get a 400 cr bounty, return to the home port and find I'm a shunned, anonymous commander. Normally they're grovelling all over me telling me what a wonderful ally I am. But apparently scanning one of OUR OWN data points makes me a leper.

So on returning, my own BGS faction scans me and shoots me down like a dog.

But it was great to see the "Pillar of Fortitude" detention centre. Took a few screenies and back into the fray, somewhat nonplussed, but hey that's ED. :)

"Agriculture constitutes around 85% of the labour force. However, the service sector represents the largest portion of theGDP.[8] Many other economic activities depend on agriculture, including marketing, processing, and export of agricultural products. Production is overwhelmingly by small-scale farmers and enterprises, and a large part of commodity exports are provided by the small agricultural cash-crop sector. Principal crops include coffee, legumes, oilseeds, cereals, potatoes, sugarcane, and vegetables.Exports are almost entirely agricultural commodities (with the exception of Gold exports), and coffee is the largest foreign exchange earner. Ethiopia is Africa's second biggest maize producer."

So one year of drought equals widespread famine? It doesn't.

I know there are no limits to lengths some of you will go to defending this game, but trying to compare a real country, with real people and real economy to a fictional space station exporting food while it's inhabitants starve is reaching levels of white knightery that shouldn't be possible.

...widespread famine...

"There is something clearly wrong with the people at Frontier," ...yes,that is pretty insulting, not least to the playerbase who by extension endorse Frontier's view by playing the game.

Doubtless i am reading way too much into what was no doubt merely intended as an introduction to your core 'gripe',but i am lead to the conclusion that by your own admission you have been playing since 1290 A.B.and have just committed the interweb equivalent of a 'facepalm' .

" their universe was going to be filled with people and machines that all behaved as if they were psychotic".
This pretty much sums up the game. What's your beef?

It's not that hard to see it in an ED lore plausible context. Perhaps the outpost was hacked or invaded where it became corrupted. So the faction sends out a freelancer on a mission to scan what's going on, before they send a maintenance or troop shuttle (future spacelegs missions). Or the worst case scenario where the outpost is eventually fought over in a short system war/civil war..

Mac from WAB?

I thought I'd perceived the "ding ding" of the "WAB" bell in the background , lol.
