Enigineers today are so nerfed its laughable how easy it is to get stuff! blueprints have been made dead simple and the things you need are super easy to get!
Yet people are still complaining?! Seriouslly how casual can you be?
There is a fine line between a challenge and bland tedium. If you cross over that line too often within a specific set of game mechanics people can clearly see what is going on. That is what is happening with Elite Dangerous in far too many areas.
Speaking as someone who has been here from nearly the beginning, I keep waiting for some of the more glaring examples of this line crossing to be reviewed, balanced and improved. Instead of seeing improvements in these areas, I am just seeing more new game mechanics being added that also suffer from this same problem.
My current 3 day long grind to find Classified Scan Databanks is a perfect example. I know the sources for obtaining this particular engineer specific data, I have located more than a few very good locations where the ships that yield this data when scanned can be found in large numbers. But as is too often the case, Frontier has decided to make the spawn rate for this data incredibly rare. To the point that scanning over 100 ships that are known to be the prime source for CSDs, I was unable to obtain a single one of them!
THAT is crossing the line I mentioned at the top of this opinion. I can see making something rare and sought after. Something that gives the player a feeling of accomplishment when they finally manage to obtain it. But when you make that item so rare that the player starts to question whether or not their game is broken or glitched, you have obviously gone too far!
Frontier seems to prefer going too far, to the point that I am starting to wonder if they are truly BLIND to the difference between a challenge and bland, contrived tedium disguised as compelling gameplay.
I have no doubt that the career Apologists in this thread will attempt to spin this into being my fault, but experienced veteran gamers know exactly what I am talking about. And I know for a fact that I am speaking for a large number of long time ED fans who agree with my assessment and in admitting that this shortcoming exists. As opposed to continually making excuses for it being in the game, and resorting to finger pointing when someone dares complain about it on this forum.
