Engineering unlock requirement.... bizarre and meaningless requests.

"travel at least 100 ly in an Apex shuttle"

soooo frontier didnt think ship interiors would add much gameplay but are happy for us to sit and watch someone else fly a ship for 20 minutes as part of the "gameplay"

what other ridiculous requests are the legineers asking for? is any of them asking for a shrubbery, a nice one that's not too expensive perhaps? or do any of their requests involve chopping trees down with herrings?

bugs aside... this and the constant fetch 1000 ABC but you can only carry 3 at a time is pretty lame, im sure we've gone backwards to engineering 1.0 with legs somehow...

wait till you get to the one that asks for 40 Opinion Poll 😂

100 ly Apex travel is really nice 😇

I do sometimes get the feeling the engineers are pulling our collective legs, yes. At least back in the Horizons Beta, the Engineers 'would like to study the Mysteries of Fish' - and you'd have to bring them fish to get better reputation with the engineers.

Engineers should have mission unlocks. Like, actual missions. Y'know, like the new on foot tutorial. Scripted, challenging scenarios.

"You want to use my workshop CMDR? I've been having trouble with those goons over at [settlement/station name]. Fly on over there and take out their boss. Then we'll talk"

Have to complete a skillful scenario instead of "AFK in taxis for an hour" or "Gather 27 thingumajigs for reasons"

Would be interesting but would also lead to posts like "engineer xy mission is to difficult, nerf it" including a heated discussion between "pros" and "newbs"

As opposed to the current engineer unlock threads we have all the time?

At least we'd be discussing interesting content then instead of MVP fetch quests.

i'd certainly appreciate those kind of unlock missions

Got the Apex Travel one without even noticing until I spotted a comm message telling me I could go visit The Jackrabbit... wasn't even trying. 'Course, my biggest issue with Apex is that they keep telling me my shuttle is ready when it's not. Makes me want to take 'em on a short spacewalk sans suit...

We need an engineer to lead people astray:

Gank 10 new players (access to G6 Dirty drives)

Gain Notoriety 10 by only killing cruise liners (access to G6 PA)

Enslave 10 new players in a mining Ponzi (access to fleet carrier engineering)

can’t see how an engineer would require you to do that for any inconceivable reason. That’s a random as my car mechanic saying. “In order for us to fix this you must Wear a rubber duck on your head for three days”.

Flimley

That's entirely normal, round here.

I don't use Apex, I don't want to end up stuck on a planet.
I just did it to unlock the ENG. Booked a 50 LY trip there and back again and that was it.
It took just a few minutes and I could prepare my dinner in the meantime.

Not really gameplay but still an OK-ish request from and ENG compared to others.

Can't say I've had the stuck-in-the-plaents-rings or been unable to leave a planet yet (happened once in Beta when I accidentally entered a ground CZ, had to run for a while to get to somewhere I could call a taxi). Having said that, I tend to taxi around the local area when searching for G3 equipment, and have had to use a taxi at least twice getting back to where I was from a prison ship. Either way though, I wasn't doing it specifically for the engineer unlock...

I do agree though that most of the unlock requirements seem a little... excessive... even those that kinda make sense (10 restore power missions for example - can't he be satisfied by one in a system less than 100LY from his base? But doing them does kind of feel like I'm doing him a favour, rather than getting an unlock simply by using a taxi. Unless the engineer's getting kickbacks from Apex ;) )

Apex is great! Gives options. Dont want to fly back? Call an apex. Searching for guns? Use apex. Feel like flying? Use your own ship.Want to visit that engineer.. Call an Apex

So far I did not get stuck. (using apex) You may have gotten unlucky.. Or read a post of a CMDR that got unlucky.
