Engineerng is a time waster

Did the OP get sent to the QM for a long weight?
Could have been that one where the engineer says, "You mined 500 tons? Cool, that's great. You sold it? Nice profit I hope. Oh, maybe I didn't mention the last thing, 20 tons of Painite for me? Sorry to be a nuisance, but now that you're an expert miner I'm sure it won't take you long." :)

I agree with OP actually. (in a way)
The unlocking is fine as is. Though sadly the engineering process is still an artifact of when it was a gamble what you got and you would roll to get better numbers.
Now it should be select the items, select the grade, select the experimental. check costs, click done. So for example 9 multicannons all engineered to grade 5 with an experimental in one go.

No need to do :-
grade 1, then 2, then 3, then 4, then 5. then add an experimental.
grade 1, then 2, then 3, then 4, then 5. then add an experimental.
grade 1, then 2, then 3, then 4, then 5. then add an experimental.
grade 1, then 2, then 3, then 4, then 5. then add an experimental.
Etc :)

Also experimentals should be available remotely.

Before there was engineering people screamed out for "crafting". "Every MMO has crafting" they cried.

Everyone who has played an MMO knows "crafting" a) is a grind and timewaster and b) leads to power creep

FD added "crafting"

People got what they asked for. People were then unhappy.

Be careful of what you wish for, you might just get it.

I wish for the ability to select the items, select the grade, then select the experimental and press done, all remotely.

:)
Crumbs, I'd hate that. This is supposed to be a space pilot game.

FD's problem in a nutshell: different players want incompatible things.

I like driving my car. Doing so while commuting, not so much. The bubble engineer loop is particularly tedious after experiencing the much more pleasant Colonia equivalent.
