Engineers - prospecting. Who thought of this?

I've landed on some planets where there are no rocks for tens of miles. Just try a different spot. Could be an instancing issue, but I once drove & drove and the rocks spawned when the terrain changed so it's probably by design :)

It was an instancing issue IMHO. Nothing yesterday - but logged on this morning and, using the same technique as last night, found loads of rocks to pop within minutes.

Thanks again for tips and advice.

I believe there are more rocks in asteroid craters and other hilly geological shapes of the planet. Also, I sometimes go to places with special coloration.
Never got disappointed.

Hm. Sulphur is quite easy to find actually. I also muted the sound of the wave scanner because it annoyed me to hear it all the time and still it's not a problem to find things.

So some of us flip the boards to get better missions...cool thing being this also works when prospecting. If ye log out and in again in solo, it sorta rejigs things a bit if ye exhausted a certain area...relogging makes it like ye just landed again so ye dont have to waste time recalling yer ship and moving someplace else ^

I hate that Wave Scanner. And to clarify I can use it just fine.

Instead of looking at the beautiful planet whilst driving and using visual clues to find minerals you have to look at that dorky Scanner.

It just comes down to drive really fast for RNG then drive really fast often in the direction you just came from for more RNG.

It's not good there should be some logic to surface mining.

The rougher or more hilly the terrain, the more time you should spend airborne. Gun it and launch off of inclines and go full thrusters for a moment; will have you in air at ~3/4 speed, and then feather the thrusters to land parallel to the next down slope, or if flat ground, use thrusters to control rate of decent for a soft(ish) landing; throttle back before touchdown so you don't shoot off or spin out unintentionally. Four pips to engines so you have extra thrust in reserve.

Also ensure you use yaw for steering so you have pitch and roll dedicated to attitude. Rolls and loops are possible once you get the knack. The 500km diameter moon (.1G) I was on last night collecting mats for rail gun synth was mostly hills and craters; was tons of fun, I was airborne most of the time.

Ditto what the others wrote on refreshing the map. I've also had several occasions where the scanner was void of any signals, went AFK for a few minutes, and had a signal when I got back. So, stop occassionaly and take in the view. This is similar to the post about back-tracking, sometimes you just miss the spawn.

Oh and have FA turned off, always. Happy shooting.
