Guide / Tutorial Engineers question.

Havent played in years. Been playing a week or so and I feel like upgrading more things in my ship. I had modified things before, but now since the engineers changed, it says I need to change to the new way but I cant and the dweller says to come back with new blueprints. How can I get blue prints if I cant make any? Do I have to delete all my previous modifications and start over? Fk all that. Grinding for engineers sucks. Of course if I show up there with a new ship, there is no problem. How do I convert my original modifications to the new way, or make a new blueprint??

As Speedcuffs says, for legacy engineering mods to be converted to the new engineering system, you need to take them to an engineer that does that particular upgrade. Doesn't actualy have to be the engineer you used before, just one that does the mod to the level that you want to convert.

When you convert a legacy mod to the new system, it drops one level, so for example, if you have a grade 5 legacy modded FSD from Farseer, you can take it back to her, or Elvira Martuuk or Mel Brandon, and any of them can convert it to the new system. Once converted it will be at the top of grade 4 and you can continue to upgrade it through grade 5. Be aware that some legacy mods are potentially better than can be got with the new system.

To get blueprints (which will enable you to use the remote workshop facility at any station) just visit an engineer that does the mod you are interested in and pin the blueprint. You will still need to visit engineers to apply experimental effects.

Here are screenshots of what happens when I try to access the dweller. I dont have any pinned blueprints. Isnt this where you make blueprints at? Is it because I was only at level 1 and that isnt enough to convert?

You can't convert it at the Dweller if you're only at level 1 with him. You must have done your distributors with Etienne Dorn .
No, that's not right, Dorn and Colonia engineers came after the engineering system was changed.

@OP, you need to max out your rep with The Dweller before you can sort that module.
I can't understand why you don't have full rep, maybe we had to redo rep after the system was changed.
Sorry I can't be more help, I can't remember the details, it was early 2018. o7

Rep used to drop by two if you bought an experimental effect. They used to be random (and odds were you wouldn't get one at all).

Thanks for trying, but I still do not understand how to fix this. I guess if the existing mod is level 1 i could just delete it.

It says Engineer grade is too low. What does that mean? Grade 1 is too low? So, then I probably have to remove it.

I came back mainly just to try out VR. Back when I played (when horizons first came out) I didnt even use Head tracking. So now in VR and being able to look around is freaking awesome. Realism improved by 80% Now if they could just get FOV to 180 like the pimax and as clear as a monitor, that would be next goal.

You have to build up reputation with the engineer.
Look at your first pic. You currently only have grade one access, you need grade five access.

Hit the button cryptically called Engineer Help, as it actually answers this one :)

Well according the the Engineering help, I should have access to the workshop from grade 1 to grade 5. So since I'm grade 1 I should have it but I don t, nowhere in there does it mention anything about converting from the old way. Thanks for your help, try reading the post first.

You may need to craft the specific mod several times (no need to apply it), until you're up to the level you need.
In the new system, you need to do all the grades up to the point you get what you need for each item you want to engineer.

Well, I removed the legacy module and now I have access to the workshop and to advance finally. Fixed. I Already had enough materials stored to max out my beam lasers, and made it to lvl 4 i guess you could call it on the power distributor but finally ran out of selenium. Back to the grind.

The problem was my legacy mod was too low of a level to convert it. once I deleted it, I was able to access the workshop again.
