Equine additions?.../Petting Zoo types

Based on animals that appear most often in petting zoos I would say the four main animals would be large pig breed (usually british/european), sheep, goat (often african breed) and donkey or horse/pony. Exhibit animal usually rabbit/guinea pig but could also be opportunity for chickens/duck/geese. I dont think cow would be particularly likely, although Highland Cattle could be a good option.

I think it’s so confusing how "common in zoos" is such a big argument when being against/for certain animals but somehow the domestic animals are not highly asked for and some people disregard them just categorically? They are the absolute most common, I don’t see how 6 representative animals out of 250 that would improve realism (far beyond any wild animal at this point) can be so incredibly bad?

For me most common in Zoos is not a big Argument. I also Welcome animals which are rare or only in their Home countrys hold in Zoos. Personally I just prefer the wild animals over the domestic ones and I for every domestic species I can tell you an equivalent wild species which I personally would rather Like to see. I mean everyone can and should Express their wishes but especially in cases of highly debated pack ideas the counter preferences should be taken. I mean If there should ever be a domestic animal pack this is okay for me and I will very likely buy it at the end but on the other hand I Just prefer the wild animals for Planet Zoo.

Well, the focus of zoos should be on conservation, mainly to build up reserve populations. So, in my opinion, I consider species which are kept in zoos and are decreasing in the wild as more important.
For the game, the most important thing for me are new rigs and I can't really see a goat, pig, cow, horse or sheep introducing any new rigs. For rabbits, waterfowl or even chickens this may be a different story, but there just seem to be some better (wild) alternatives.

I think I might have worded it weirdly, I don't think being common in zoos is the one thing to look at :D The opposite if anything haha Just that it is weird that it is used as an argument for one thing but doesn't matter for this specific area 🙈
I myself don't even think that that is important really, I just like what I like and I happen to like domestic animals but I'd also want an aardwolf which isn't common at all :D

My comment wasn't really about wanting realism to be the one thing we all have to pay the most attention to, sorry if it was worded unclearly! Just that it's confusing how it's important when talking about the sloth now, but not overall 🙈

But since I already started typing I'll just leave my other thoughts on your comment here too haha

While I 100% agree with you when it comes to real zoos, I don't think it has to apply to the game... I personally find the best building mode I've ever seen to be the thing why I come back to it every time. And building something that caters to a small, low-budget animal collection can be fun just as much as old city zoo struggeling to keep up or a modern high budget zoo with conservation effords for uncommon animals or a natue reserve for a few native species,... etc. For this game animals are more like little building prompts within a bigger project to me I guess, so a little farm with a low fence right up to the path might sometimes be more refreshing then another wild animal enclosure with a moat that is similar to something we've already had :D I too still want a lot of wild species, even some similar to a domestic one, but I just think some domestics won't hurt!

I totally agree on the rigs though! I'd be okay with using mods for the once you named, but the one thing with petting zoo/feeding mechanic, eventhough my heart isn't set on it, is still that I think it would be cooler to have and rarely use then to never have the option because all animals are inteded to be wild, you know what I mean? I'd rather have a mod for a wild donkey and not place a petting station in their enclosure then using a mod for a domestic donkey and never even getting the option to decide if I want it petted or not haha hope this makes sense!

Either way I think everyone will see animals that they are not personally excieted about come tot the game and will have to use mods for some they really wanted :D it's just how it is :D
But yeah, like I said, that wasn't really what my first comment was about, I just got into rambling, sorry 😂

For me (don’t want to speak for anyone else):

1: 6 domestic breeds = 6 fewer wild species
2: I don’t go to the zoo to see farm animals - yes, a lot of zoos have domestics, but what defines a zoo is wild species.
3: I’m not opposed to domestics alltogether, I just place them as a (much) lower priority than other groups that are missing in-game (most especially, monkeys and birds).
4: Most of the zoos near me don’t have domestics anyway so, for me, they aren’t necessary for a realistic zoo.

Hey, maybe you wanna check above what I wrote to clearify, or maybe I'll edit my original comment, I think it was worded unclearly, sorry about that!
But my comment was really just voicing confusion why it's important to get the right sloth to be the one most common in zoos but other common animals are not getting the same kind of support when the argument used is realism/being common 🙈

It was not intended to say that realism or being common in zoos should be the #1 criteria for everyone or say "it's realistic so everyone should want them the most" :D

Like I said, it's not even my own personal reason for wanting domestics, I just want them because I love them, I think they look cute, I sooo want to build for them and maybe I'm just a city kid, I DO get excieted to see pigs and chickens in a zoo haha they just make the cutest sounds 💛

I would support the addition of domestics if it didn't take development resources from wild animals. I personally want sheep.
