Errors in scanning star systems

Currently flying in the far reaches of the galaxy. I constantly face such a problem:
I'm flying into a star system. On the screen in front of me, I see only one star of this system. Scanning the system with a detection scanner. A distinctive beep sounds and I get a message: 12 cosmic bodies found.
Starting the FSS scanner. I see several bodies available, including 1 water planet, and 1 planet with ammonia.
I open the map of the system , and there is only one star and an asteroid belt next to it.

Q: Where are the other 10 cosmic bodies?
And this happens very often. Bug in the game?

Is the map not showing the other bodies even after you scan them with the fss? Cause if nobody has scanned an object before you get there, it won't show up on the system map until you do.

You can discover objects either by using the fss (you'll need to locate each body, then zoom into it).
Alternatively, fly near to the object (original method), that's why your seeing the main star and possibly a couple of near objects.
The discovery scanner used to show all planets in a system with one scan, but then you needed to fly to near the object to scan them.
The new system is faster if there are lots of distant objects...

If the system is "well known", then it will appear without scanning.

You are in Unexplored space. The "other ten cosmic bodies" you cannot see on the system map have never been discovered by anybody. This is working as intended; you aren't supposed to be able to see completely Undiscovered planets on the system map, until you (or someone else) discovers them. To find them, you need to use the FSS to tune in to their signals.

In systems closer to Sol which you are probably more familiar with, they're already completely Explored (though not scanned by you personally) so you can see them on the system map, flagged as "Unexplored" until you do scan them yourself. This, also, is working as intended and not a bug.

According to your forum join date you've been playing the game for a while now, so you may be used to exploration as it was prior to the FSS. Back then, you could, indeed, see all planets in the system map just by honking the old ADS. Not anymore. And yes, many people who liked exploring "the old fashioned way" were rather annoyed when it was changed.

I think you don't understand the FSS yet. Do you see squiggly lines on the FSS tuner? They are bodies that you haven't discovered, you need to scan around the system while tuned into those frequencies to locate the bodies and zoom in to them, it's not enough just to put the FSS reticule over them, you must zoom in to see the planet. Not all signals found are planets, some may be USS, some may be NSP, some may be asteroid belts so you need to keep going until you have cleared them all (not recomended for USS in the bubble unless they are what you are after). When you first run the honk before opening the FSS it will tell you the number of planets, but not the number of signals.

If you exit the FSS and you don't see the planets then you haven't zoomed in using the FSS, once you have zoomed in the squiggle will change to a spot with a number showing you have discovered that body, when you exit the FSS and open the system map you will then be able to see the planets you have discovered. To start with scan along the orbital plane, if you are still missing some because they aren't in the orbital plane or orbiting a second star use a pattern search while focused on the signal in the FSS tuner, up/down, left/right, both diagonals, you'll soon get the hang of it!

This happens all the time to me too. I will jump into a system I've never been in before, stop and then honk the system. I will get the message that there are X number of bodies in the system and there is nothing but the star; not even asteroid belts. The honk should show me everything there and then I need to go and examine it closer. So, why is the message telling me one thing and the honk another?

No, that's the old ADS, the new system locates gravitational and energy anomalies that you must then scan with the FSS to reveal what is there, the new honk has never shown planets and other stuff unless the system has been previously visited and reported to UC by another CMDR, but then you still need to scan them to get full details.

Now guys don't discourage him, that leaves more for us to discover.

I am using the Discovery Scanner. I have never used the Full Spectrum Scanner. In fact I looked at the key bindings and it doesn't have an activate key (that I can see.) Like I said before: I jump insystem and honk. It shows me everything in the system. It doesn't tell what each planet is specifically unless it is very close. If I see something that interests me, I head towards it until it gets scanned (Earth sized object about 60Ls.) I got back from my little jaunt out into the black and made some money selling the data. Doesn't seem all that different than before 3.3.

Do you HAVE to use the FSS?

This is true only in already explored systems.
In pristine ones the honk shows only how many bodies there are. They will not be visible in the system map or scanner unless you use FSS on them or fly close enough for the autoscan to work.

Yes, the keybind isn't in very intuitive place, it is under Mode Switches, the very bottom item.
But "leave FSS" bind is in Full Spectrum System Scanner bind listing though.
