I have been out the UK for a while and just came across that link.

Can't understand it myself .. why do we let governments make such idiot rulings ?

In Finland we have this organisation called Teosto (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teosto) that not only collects royalties for performers for the playing of their music etc., but also gets money for each empty CD, DVD or Blu-Ray disk or hard drive etc. that is sold in Finland because copyrighted music _could_ be recorded on them...

But, yes, very idiotic.

That's not the EU way. They'd lock up the person who made the knife... Or perhaps the person who mined the ore that the blade was forged from.
