Eurasia Animal Pack Hot Takes

REMEMBER: BE RESPECTFUL!!!!!!!!!

I get that it hasn’t come out yet, but what are some of your Eurasia Animal Pack hot takes? Here are some of mine:
  • I never got into the hype behind the saiga antelope. I might’ve preferred the Persian onager as one of our obligatory ungulates.
  • I would’ve preferred something like the blackbuck or the yak over the wisent.
  • This one is my fault rather than Frontier’s: When I listened to the livestream, I got my hopes up for a Central Asia Animal Pack. I was hoping for a lion-tailed macaque.

• Wisent is my favourite animal in the pack. Over even the Takin, Wolverine and Mute Swan.
• Sloth Bear is a great animal but it does not fit the vibe of this pack. The general cold winter theme would’ve better suited any other Asia animal, perhaps even the GSNM.

  • Blackbuck was a better choice than saiga.
  • Saiga probably took the place from markhor. Here is hope we get a Taiga pack with the bearded goat in it.
  • Wisent is boring. Should've been an anniversary gift at best.
  • GSNM. It was a perfect fit for a primate in this winter feeling pack.

Swan while amazing wasnt the best waterfowl pick, still 11/10 animal

And while i really like the pack its again to ungulate heavy for my taste. Changing one of them (wisent in my case) for the lion tailed macaque wouldnt only round out the pack and overall game roster more but also would help the slothbear not stick out like a sore thumb

I've said most of what I've needed to, but while I'm very happy about the takin and reasonably pleased with the sloth bear, they both feel tacked-on for the overall theme. The saiga, wolverine, swan, and historically the wisent (now extinct in Asia) are all proper Eurasian animals, but the takin and sloth bear are only found in parts of South and East Asia.

The tortoise is fine but a bit weird. For one, while the 4x4x4 box is adequate space for tortoises, they're still an animal that can be held in outdoor pens and indeed benefit from it, and it's also endemic to Europe (the Greek tortoise, on the other hand, has a range stretching from Spain to Pakistan). I would have gone with either that or a sheltopusik, a personal favorite reptile that's also fairly common in captivity.

The wisent and Hermann’s tortoise are essential animals to build any realistic European section in a zoo and were two of the last essential animals in Planet Zoo

There’s not too many ungulates in this pack, especially since the four selected were either the next essential/highly desired animals or some of the most distinctive ungulates. In general, my real hot take, Planet Zoo lacks ungulates.

Whilst I’m sure the sloth bear will look great and I’m pleased to have a true south Asian animal that’s also Baloo, I can’t help but feel that the Pallas’ cat or golden snub-nosed monkey would fit better.

Similarly, I would’ve preferred the red-breasted goose to the mute swan as that is a more exotic Eurasian animal and embodies the theme better

Wolverine is overrated. Mute Swan is a fekn psycho bird. "Oh yeah, another bear". Takin? I'm not Takin it! Sry!

(too disappointed and sad to write anything else. You may of course hate me.)

Here’s my respectful disagreement:
  • I understand that the wolverine can seem overrated, but I still find it essential for North American zoos/zoo areas.
  • Yes, swans can be jerks, but I appreciate something a little different.
  • I don’t care if the sloth bear doesn’t really fit. I grew up with the original Disney Jungle Book movie. Also, I want to collect all of the bears.
  • I really love the takin. I get that I shouldn’t approach them, but I love those fluffy bois! I just wanna give them a hug and brush their long coats!

Frontier continues to do amazing work, especially given the cuts that have been happening behind the scenes. What I'm about to say is by no means a reflection of their hard work and dedication. This pack LOOKS stunning, visually speaking, and I will still 100% buy this pack but here's my "hot take":
  • Wild boar - Although requested by many other players on the META Wishlist for a fair amount of time, this animal just doesn't interest me and isn't all too common in captivity. Probably won't use it.
  • Wolverine - A good animal for North American, European or Asian-themed zoos. The Wolverine is one of the animals I saw a lot of players begging for. I'm sure the team knocked it out of the park by making this animal as feisty and as characterful as it is in real life, but it isn't a quintessential zoo animal as only around one hundred are kept in captivity around the world. Will probably only use it once.
  • Mute swan - WE HAVE OUR FIRST WATERFOWL!!!! But beyond that, it isn't a zoo animal. May use it a few times but that will depend on how it works in the game.
  • Wisent - A conservation success story that continues to be written today. Though it may seem like a clone of the American Bison, the Wisent has a different significance to the Europeans than the Bison does to Americans. It is a nice addition, even though I wasn't crying out for it. Will probably use it a few times.
  • Takin - Another highly requested animal by the community but one that is uncommon in captivity. These vulnerable animals don't seem all too interesting, nothing game-changing but a nice addition to the Asia roster of animals, though I will probably only use it once.
  • Saiga - Shouldn't be in this pack! Saiga do not handle captivity well at all, especially in a zoo setting so for a zoo simulation game to add this is certainly an odd choice, even if the Saiga's story is one worth shedding light on. May use it once.
  • Sloth Bear - Not necessarily a Eurasian animal so it feels a bit off but it gives India, a country lacking representation in Planet Zoo, an iconic animal! It should also be unique among the current roster of bears in the game too so I don't mind this one too much, it just feels a bit out of place. May use it a couple of times.
  • Hermann's Tortoise - Nice to get a small tortoise species in the game and is a nice change to the snakes, spiders and bugs we usually get in the normal exhibit boxes. Again though, not an interesting animal nor is it kept in zoological captivity all that often as they are fairly common in pet keeping. Probably won't use it.
Overall I'm disappointed with this pack, it is easily the bottom of all the packs we've had this year. I hope we get more DLC in 2024 and that DLC has better animal choices (for my tastes) and adds animal species still missing from the game that are common in zoos and wildlife parks such as Tamarins, Marmosets, New World Monkeys, Andean Bear, Pudu, Tree-Kangaroo, Visayan Warty Pig and flying birds! The inclusion of the Swan in this pack is a step in the right direction for including more birds in the future, and there are definitely some waterfowl I'd like to see added into the game but for me, as a closing note, this pack is just a disappointing way to end what has otherwise been a good year for Planet Zoo.

My Planet Zoo 2023 Pack Rankings:
1.
Arid Animal Pack
2. Tropical Pack
3. Oceania Pack
4. Eurasia Animal Pack

I'm sure Palla's cat is still in the plans. This is not a mountain pack. The grumpy cat is too cute and memeable for Frontier to pass on it. We'll get it next year 💪🏻

No. Every opinion is appreciated.
Feel free to discuss your feelings.
Thank you. I don’t want any toxicity in our thread.

I do enjoy a little teasing though, but this isn’t quite the place for it. I find teasing to be a way to strengthen bonds between loved ones and show that you care when it’s done right (e.g., don’t do it too much, don’t do something to extreme), but I most often save it for my really close loved ones.

The mute swan kind of saves this pack for me. Its a bit too much of the usual ungulate/carnivoran heaviness for my liking. Some of them like the wild boar and the wisent I can understand being essential for Europe, and I'm happy they're in the game even if I won't use them in the slightest until I finally build a European zoo.

For what it is the sloth bear is fine. I like it as an animal, I just don't think it adds anything to the game's already unbalanced roster. I'll still use it. I don't have anything to say on the takin, its just a nice addition even if its another ungulate

The saiga though I'm disappointed with. Its one thing for an animal to be niche elsewhere but essential for their own region (wisent, boar, red deer, European badger, lynx, kiwi, Tassie, little penguin, etc.) - the sort of animals that I welcome to the game with open arms - but its another thing entirely for it to be a rare, niche species even within its own region. Not to mention its just another unnecessary ungulate that takes the spot of something more unique. I would have happily taken pretty much any monkey or another bird over it and to a lesser extent the sloth bear. Seriously, a monkey alone probably would have made this my second favorite pack of the year.

On a more positive note, all the animals look gorgeous and I'm happy to see Frontier's artists continue to find their footing with the game's art style.
