Euro Truck Simulator is awesome!

Its fine, you can just leave them in basic trucks, it doesn't really make any difference. What matters is the driver's skill. General advice is focus on long distance driving skill first for them along with the perhaps an ADR or two appropriate for their location.

At first they won't make you much money, so its mainly about letting them build up experience. When they get some experience and skill points invested, they start bringing home the bacon, regardless of what they are driving.

Later on, which you are rolling in cash, you might splash out on better rigs for them.
Ah, in that case maybe I shouldn't have them all set to "Balanced" then.

I'm working on delivering Christmas packages for a community goal, hoping to get my mitts on this sweet little number of a paint job:

That's not true as of a few updates ago. Now giving your drivers better trucks does indeed increase their earnings per day.

I had a few of my garages filled with fully upgraded trucks and the rest driving bone stock low end trucks, and sure enough the fully upgraded rigs did indeed earn more money per day.

It's not a monumental difference, something like 50-100% more. I just gradually upgrade my fleet as my bank account gets full.

50-100% is considerable. When you say that you upgrade when finances permit, are you talking about the best trucks on the market, or just mid-range? For that matter, what's your own personal go-to high end truck?

Yeah, i remember that in the patch notes. My feeling is that early on though its not worth the investment and you are better off spending the money on a second driver/truck and getting their XP up early.

I'm not sure if the actual model or brand of truck matters, I think things like the engine size and transmission and fuel tanks are more important. From my driver stats it seems like having trucks with better equipment allows them to complete jobs faster, thus they earn more per day. So I just give my drivers trucks the best engines, frames, and transmissions possible when my bank account permits it.

I already own every garage on the ATS map but I only have drivers in like one third of those, most are empty and still at size 3 just waiting for my profits to put them into action. Currently though I'm upgrading the trucks in my fleet because the additional revenue really does add up fast with high level drivers using top tier rigs.

Once you get a good company up and running the money flows like fine wine. Allows me to simply drive my truck around free roaming the map sightseeing while still making great profits off my employees! I still do jobs myself too but its nice to be able to explore the map freestyle, there are a lot of awesome little things to see in the ATS world.

I really would like to see 1:1 scale areas in trucking game. Could be done on Outerra engine for example. As much as I enjoy Eu and AtS its still little to shrunken.

Yeah, 1:20 scale does seem a bit smallish, but still it takes about an hour and a half to complete a 1000 mile delivery, so it manages to convey a sense of real distance. I wish they had more states for ATS. I just got into it so I haven't had a finger on the development pulse, but how long before they release another, do you think?

Its kind of funny how in ETS/ATS the tendency is for people to ask for longer travel times while in ED its shorter. I suppose its becaues in ETS/ATS everything is about the journey whereas in ED its more about the destination.

I've only played ATS for about thirty hours so far, but I'm pretty confident that comparisons between it and "trucking" in ED are irrelevant for just the reason you're getting at here.

I feel like the scale of both ETS and ATS are just about right. Once you add all the states the map grows large, and doing long hauls from state to state can take some time. If it was too long it would get tiresome, but the scale they have creates a good amount of driving with parking/finding new jobs breaking it all up in a timely manner.

I think the smaller world makes it a better "game".

This just popped up:

Ooooh Iberian Peninsula for ETS2 next and Idaho for ATS, although some old map update team pulled away to work on the next new map DLC (booh). (from SCS site).

Plenty to look forward to next year!!! :)

So you ATS/ETS hardcore vets play this with a steering wheel/pedals, or are keyboard mouse scrubs like me? I have been thinking about purchasing a steering wheel just for this, as overall I'm not much of a racing game fan.
I'm kb and mouse, I do have a driving rig for race sims, but could never get decent FFB with my Fanatec CSR.

Controls-wise, I have lots of fond memories from my old force feedback wheel, but the days where I could fit it handily in the computer space are long gone, sadly. So for ETS I use either HOTAS+pedals, or controller+pedals. It's not the ultimate immersion, but it does the job. All I want is enough buttons to map stuff like navigation modes, turning indicators, lights, engine, etc without having to reach for the keyboard.

I bought the American version for cheap awhile back, played it once, and then forgot I even own the game. I drive on roads all the time, so doing it in a video game isn't that compelling to me. Now if the game secretly supports VR, I might have another look at it. Otherwise I think I'd rather drive something like a train for this type of sim. Derail Valley is on my wishlist!

I not only drive a lot irl, but I also drive big trucks pulling big trailers and I can't get enough of this game for some bizarre reason. The fact that I've lived in the Pacific Northwest for nearly thirty years and have extensively driven most of the highways on the map doesn't hurt, either. The dim echo of reality is both eery and strangely comforting.

I bought it yesterday in the Steam Sales.

Oh my god this game is beautiful! I cannot get over how well made it is!

Within minutes I bought a ship-load of DLC for it. Don't regret it. Awesome game.

Highly recommend getting it before July 4th. [yesnod]
If you can, try it in VR. Also you may be interested in American truck simulator
