Euro Truck Simulator is awesome!

A thing ATS has over ETS is that the Trucks are so much cooler...
I have all the ETS content, too, but I haven't tried it yet. One question I have is how long are your deliveries compared to ATS? Are there deliveries that span the entire map, and how big is the map in real gaming terms compared to ATS? Personally, I'm having more fun with the longer journeys.

Another question I have is, and this is relevant to both games, is do the truck brands behave differently in terms of steering and tipping over at high speeds around corners, are all the trucks the same outside of looks? So far, besides the really low end day cab with a teeny motor, the only high end truck I've driven is the Lonestar, so I don't have anything to compare to.

I play much more ATS than ETS, so I still ain't sufficiently qualifiied to answer your questions properly (maybe some ETS vet will pitch in), but I can still tell you that ETS, being around for longer, has had a lot more map expansions and the current map (with all DLCs) is gigantic (with more n the way, next is the Iberia peninsula). Besides the horsepower, I confess I never noticed much (if any at all) difference between the trucks in terms of handling.

I think the biggest difference between playing ATS and ETS, is mostly the scenery. ATS has the typical american long haul vast expanses, sometimes dramatic landscapes, a slighly bigger sense of isolation, and much more space between urban regions. ETS on the other hand, has more diverse landscapes, it is also more "compact", with many villages between larger towns, overall it's more "green" with many forested regions (but this can change a lot between parts of europe), it has a lot more visible arquitecture differences (because it spans a lot of different and very old countries). It also has ferry rides, which are very cool.

ATS features mighty Mount St. Helens (you can actually drive into one of it's main viewpoints parking lot), but ETS features mythical Mount Vesuvius and Mount Etna.

Both are bloody excellent, while I do tend to play ATS more because of the change of scenery and the cooler trucks (IMO), I couldn't decide which is best.

With your character levelled up in long distance driving you can easily get jobs of 2000+ miles from Scotland, south of France or the toe of Italy going out to Russia or back. I don't have the Black Sea add on yet but looking at the map there's also a hell of a long distance to travel to get out to Turkey.

I did notice some minor differences in handling between the trucks I've used. The Iveco was really prone to falling over, the old Merc wasn't. The Volvos are somewhere in between with the classic FH16 being more stable than the later one - I could really hammer that thing up a Swiss mountain switchback with the trailer hanging on by it's outer wheels alone.

Oh, anyway, does Frontier want some oversized novelty presents? Ho ho ho.

Damn it you lot. You have given me the itch to dig out the rift and climb in my rig....... Must resist and do family stuff ;)
It's soooo good. I'm stunned at how much I like this game. I mean, I've avoided it for so long and only got it just as a sort of experiment since it was on sale for $4.99. Boy am I glad I tried it.

Impossible to park? Yup, almost. You have to get it right first time. Straight in, no reversing.
I think he meant reversing into a parking spot. Now that you mention it, I'm not even allowed to pick the option to back into a spot because it's all grayed out.

I don't think the game expects you to be able to reverse anything more complex than a single trailer. It is just about possible to reverse a double if you have plenty of room, but in real life you wouldn't have to normally. Anywhere using them will be set up so you can drive straight in, and will then separate the trailers.

It's nerve wracking enough just finding fuel and rest stops with them. A minute ago midway through a 1900 mile delivery for a 90,000lb bulldozer on a low boy I pulled into the only rest stop in miles with my sleep gauge well into the red...and got the trailer stuck on a boulder. My blood ran cold. It was middle of the night and raining so bad that I couldn't see out of my mirrors, I thought the trip was over right there.

Don't know if they pushed it into ATS, but in ETS there's a DLC for special oversized cargo that you carry in a convoy, with cars opening the way for you and following behind. It's pretty neat to vary the experience every now and then. You just need to not be an idiot like me, and first make sure the truck you bring has enough horsepower to pull that thing up motorway ramps instead of getting stuck on the slope! 🤦‍♂️

Decided to get Road to the Black Sea. I normally wait until a sale to get the add on content but SCS hasn't disappointed so far I figured it'd be worth it.
First run a loooong haul from Southampton to İstanbul. Nothing fancy, just a generic box trailer.
It was not a good run. Lets say the Bulgarian roads are poorly signposted and I got caught out a few times by junctions or bends on fast roads without warning. Mostly without incident, but...
Had a large junction I hauled the anchors out for but ended sliding out into the middle of it. A few seconds later a car bounces off the side of the trailer. A cop car.*
And then, south of Veliko Tarnovo I have a big oof with a bend that tightened without warning. The truck went over. Or it would have gone over if it wasn't for the other lorry heading in the opposite direction I bounced off the side of.
Nine grand damage penalty to the cargo at the end, but the truck was stuffed. I had to limp round to Burgas for repairs in tenth gear and with an engine that kept shutting off and refusing to restart.

But having said that, really nice add on. The passport controls and weigh bridges are an interesting diversion and the scenery is excellent. Bulgaria and Romania really have a gritty, ex-Soviet look to them. Kinda makes the original game map areas look a bit poor now.

*That's my only real complaint about this game. There are too many coppers. I counted ten police cars on a back road to Aberdeen once. Whereas in reality you can go for weeks driving the South's motorways without seeing one. And they're flipping psychic - nailing you for speeding the instant you cross a boundary even though they're the other side of a barrier so would never actually know or be able to prove how fast you're going.
